I'm torn. I love Ann Patchett and think this book is very beautifully written and the characters and their relationships wonderfully compelling, but I can't quite get over my irritation with the premise. There was a time that the ridiculousness of the setting wouldn't have bothered me, but I guess I'm more interested in stories that more closely mirror real life/likely scenarios these days. . .
