Although judging by the ridiculous length of time it took me to read this, I eat up books like this. Tons of useless knowledge and trivia, extensively and generously referenced. I added about a dozen and a half books to my "to read" list because of this one. The author does make some editorial asides, which for the most part aren't off putting, though you can tell he votes Democrat.

The author tried too hard to be funny, and it ended up resulting in characters that bordered obnoxious. The character of Satan was just ridiculous and every time he was around I felt myself cringing. There are some authors who do funny very well, ex) Kimberley Raye, Mary Janice Davidson, Sandra Hill etc.. If you are looking for a funny PNR or funny trad. romance, there are far better choices out there than this one. I wouldn't waste my time with any of the other books in this series.

I've got to say, I initially wanted to give this book five stars, I really did, but there were just parts that were so arbitrary, almost annoying to read. Bits and pieces about Canadians or Americans that seemed there just for the sake of including stereotypes. The argument about whether God existed seemed forced, and thrown in as an afterthought. That said, these bits aside, the book was another great one. The story picks up smoothly from where it left off, and remains a solid one. Webmind's development is natural and makes sense as described. There continue to be interesting facts and theories presented in the book that satisfy one's nerdier side as well, of course. I personally can't wait for the third book.

Loved it. What a powerful way to teach children about the frightful ways of our past. Time and time again, I found myself wanting to come through the pages of the book to rescue poor Isabel from the harshest treatment no person should bear - never mind a child. Although the characters are fictional, the experiences and historical references are not, making this novel not only engrossing, but also enlightening.
