I haven't read anything else by Malcolm Gladwell, and I think the real reason I loved this book is that it confirms my own world view. All the same, I can't resist giving it five stars. The book presents the thesis that very successful people are, like the rest of us, a product of a particular environment. In their cases it was a lucky environment indeed. Not that successful people do not work hard, but that it takes more than hard work to be an amazing success. It takes a certain background. Right with you there Malcolm Gladwell. He presents some very interesting anecdotes along the way. The less satisfying part is when you wonder about his hand-picked selection of these anecdotes, and how well they really would stand up to intense scrutiny. But I found myself loving it anyway.

I tried to read this book, and got through about 200 pages - just couldn't do it. I'm not a great fan of war stories and the writing reminded me of a high school essay. Everyone else seems to love it, probably just me.

I loved this book! Couldn't put it down. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did. I liked the format of the book. Very well done. It is a book about team-building and Coach K uses experiences from coaching the 2008 U.S. Men's Olympic Basketball team. "This book is divided into times and moments, with each chapter devoted to a particular quality of time I feel is vital to team building." There are various qualities: Time to develop a support system, Time to understand context, Time to form relationships, Time to establish standards, etc. Many great stories emphasize the importance of the qualities. Coach K says for him, his family is his team, and his team is his family. This book is relevant not just for coaches or players, but I feel the same qualities mentioned could be utilized in a family setting, even an individual could benefit in using these qualities. Not all will be applicable, but many are. It was inspirational. I loved reading about the strong character of many of the players and staff and of the honesty and respect and the bonding that took place over time. I felt such a sense of patriotism as I read this book. Very glad Coach K shared his knowledge and experiences in this book which is now a favorite of mine.

Actually, my feeling about the book is "it's better than a 2, but not quie a 3"; however, I'll give it a 3 rather than am "it was OK" 2 star rating. The premise of the book is that Betsy spends 12 years in prison for murdering her neighbor, Linda Sue, apparently while sleep walking. Now, she is being relaeased b/c DNA evidence proves she did not commit the murder. Betsy goes back to the same suburban neighborhood and mves in with neighbrs, since she and Her husband divorced while she wa in prison, in an attempt to figure out what happened. As the story is getting set up and all the characters, especially all the neighborhood folks, it seems like an intriguing story. I get interested in figuring out this "whodunit". However, as the book goes along, the story gets weirdly convoluted, the characters get more bizarre and I'm feeling like I'm reading the script for a season's worth of Desperat House4wives. Reading this book confirmed my aversion to living in suburban housing developments. By the end of the book I was exhausted from all the twists & turns and strange characters that the ending seemed out of left field. If you liked the TV show Desperate Housewives, you might find this book right up your alley! I've read other Cammie McGovern books and really liked them; this one, not as well. I'll keep my eyes out for her next one and hope it's as good as Eye Contact.

Great book. Tells the story of a family thru the thoughts of their dog. It's a very emotional book. It makes you angry, sad and laugh. I think a book that can bring out emotion is a really good book. I had to read the last half of the book in one sitting, couldn't put it down. It touches on some reincarnation issues, which I liked.

A must-read for epic fantasy. Amazingly intricate, the first time I have ever read intrigue done so WELL, so addictively. This series is already a classic of the genre.

My husband gave me this book to read - J.M. Coetze is one of his favorite authors. I knew nothing about the story and I had no idea how compelling it would be. The book is a disturbing but it's also provocative and beautiful and painful and redeeming. It asks hard questions but never assumes it has the answers. It's haunting....I still think about the book.
