One of the few times where the movie far exceeds the book. I think Amy's review is spot on.

Although the romantic/glamorous side of this series doesn't have much appeal for me, I enjoy the main character's quirks. I too have the fashion sense of a fire plug and would as soon face a mad dog as a cosmetician. Eve Dallas makes me laugh, and these days a laugh is a treasure.

I've gotten so Jodi Picoult's books are at times predictable...there's the mother, the attorney, the cop, occasionally a priest, and then there's a crime and a trial and a romance. House Rules, however, really impressed me with its view of autism and had some moments worthy of Anne Tyler. (Especially the prom.)

Lots of people have tried to "explain" Iran -- I think this is the best of the lot. Part travelogue, part history, part colourful reportage, and beautifully written.

A strange trip through modern day computer hacking, treasure hunting, and WWII era phillipines it's a crazy mind blowing time travel trip. So smart and downright original it's amazing.

When the flock is ambushed at their home by a group of Erasers, their peaceful world is flipped upside down. They are constantly on high alert for human-lupine hybrids and are constantly running away from anything that they would ever want to be near forever. As they learn of new abilities, their struggle with the School is brought out to greater lengths. I liked this book because it doesn't take long to find action in a new chapter. The characters have well-defined personalities and they seem very human, despite their being not fully human. The enemy characters are well portrayed, too. I recommend this book to anyone who likes reading about superhumans and plenty of good action sequences.

Angel Burn was amazing! Willow has lived for 16 years knowing she is different from other teenagers, but not realizing just how different. She's spent her whole life taking care of her mother because her father, whom she's never met, left her a broken shell. Willow is psychic and really great at fixing cars. After a fateful psychic reading Willow's life is changing drastically. All of a sudden "they" send an assassin to kill her, but she doesn't know why and he can't seem to figure her out just yet. This book is full of complex characters with an intriguing story. I was so obsessed with it! I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars!!

I read "Julius Caesar" first with my 8 year-old son and he loved it. After all it had ghosts and sword swinging... so what's not for a boy to love. He liked it so much, in fact, that he immediately asked that we re-read the story again, this time a longer version, and this time with the aid of his older sister -- so we could share out the rolls. We did, and the three of us had a blast. THE SKINNY::: This book is so much fun. The parts that should have been grisly were downright funny -- which is why my kids wanted to read it again and again. I think that having three different stagings makes the plays very adaptable to different situations. You can essentially pick the length and degree of complexity that best fits your situation. The book contains 3 slightly different versions of the play. All of the versions take about 10-15 minutes to read or act out, but the number of speaking parts .AND. the degree of plot complexity varies. This is the second book in this series that we've read, and I must say that it won't be the last. I simply adore that I can introduce Shakespeare to my children much earlier than I had thought possible. We discuss the plays on their level, and it introduces them to the Bard's best known lines so that when we hear them in other places, we are reminded of where the phrases come from. This is a collection of short stories based around an apartment complex in Bombay occupied mostly by members of the Parsi community. The stories stand alone but are closely intertwined and set over a period of years, so children in the earlier stories are seen as adults later. Mistry picks out the idiosyncrasies and indelicacies of daily life; foibles and habits are laid bare. Neighbours fall out and get along. Birth and death take their place, faith, superstition and scepticism also. Ordinary life and its processes are laid bare with all its hopes and fears. This could have been banal, but was in fact brilliant with real compassion for the extraordinary ordinary people populating its pages. The nature of change, decay and aging are outlined in touching and thought provoking ways. Moving comic and thoroughly enjoyable.
