A clear explanation of a subject that is often misunderstood What is the requirement for salvation? What does it mean to be "saved by grace?" What of the so-called "Lordship" salvation? What place do works have in our life and how do they affect our salvation? Ryrie answers these and many other questions in a straightforward and comprehensive way. If you have any question about what kind of salvation Jesus purchased for us, and what qualifies us to partake in "So Great Salvation" then you should read this book. It rocks!

I was looking for something trashy to read in NY but unfortunately this does not rise to the level of fun of Something Borrowed and Something Blue. it's a kind of pointless tirade about not wanting kids until ...well, I won't spoil the ending. does anyone know if her fourth book is any better?

Really, really cool short stories. Richter does an amazing job capturing the POVs of her bizarre, fucked up characters; their voices are remarkably distinct and the prose is lively. Richter reminds me somewhat of Aimee Bender or Kelly Link, although I think I may have actually enjoyed these stories more; they had a tighter narrative structure than either Bender's or Link's work, whose stories (the latter's in particular) sometimes leave me going, "What was that actually ABOUT?" Which is not to say Richter's dumbing it down—there is simply a clarity to her presentation and purpose. I loved both the tragic, heart-wrenching stories, like "The Beauty Treatment," and the ebullient, ridiculous ones—"Goal 666" and "Rats Eat Cats" are two of my favorites in the collection.

Absolutely amazing! It was a little slow going at first, but then I hit a point where I couldn't put it down, and read the bulk of it in an evening. I also found it fairly educational about Afghan society, history and women's roles.

Asimov enjoyed showing off his versatility, and even though he's best known for his SF and popular science, he could do other things too. In particular, he was surprisingly competent at mysteries. Maybe he should have written more of them. This book collects together his best mystery short stories, the greater part of which have an SF theme. They often hinge on a clever piece of word-play. Asimov loved jeux de mots, and had a tendency to be a little too silly with them, but here he gets it right; "What's in a Name?" is a nice murder set in a library, with a very satisfying and logical resolution, and "The Clue" manages at the same time to be incredibly geeky and rather haunting. Recommended to anyone who likes both the SF and mystery genres. ____________________________________ If you've read The Billiard Ball, you may be interested to know that (view spoiler)

This book marked the end of my interest in Kingsolver. I got interested in a few of the essays, but mostly it seemed like more blah blah blah.

Better than I expected. After a few chapters, it becomes pretty compulsive reading, but the ending is a little disappointing.
