This was interesting, but I have to admit it felt like a lifetime channel movie, here is Alice who we are supposed to admire, all these men love her, and she is better than all of them. It is interesting in parts, but as a whole it is just a potboiler. A better version of this is the film Dreamchild, which too had some inconsistencies, but had more depth to it.

It's hard to believe that bullying like this actually goes on! I was lucky/naive enough to never be bullied or be the bully (I hope). This is a really enlightening book if you work with kids or have kids.

Has a premise similar to "Crash",(movie). Story of 2 couples in CA, a liberal yuppies couple and an illegal immagrant one and how their paths, fears, and dreams criss-cross eath others paths. Lousy, pointless ending.

I enjoy Tim Green's books because I know my sons like the football/realistic fiction aspect. In this one, Troy is living a bit of a rough life with the jerk at school always putting him down and one-upping him. His mom gets a job with the Atlanta Falcons, but Troy's mistakes get him to meet one of the star players. Not really a realistic story, but a great football book for middle grade kids.

The conflict in this story is what the main character and his brother are going to do with a bag of money that they unexpectedly come into. The problem is that the bag of money doesn't even show up until page 50. Before that most of the story is about the main character's obsession with saints. Even after the bag shows up the story goes right back to saints again. I couldn't stand it. I felt like yelling at the author to "get to the point." In my opinion, too much else on my "to-read" shelf to waste anymore time with this book.

The Night Tourist is a book that I have been eyeing at my library for a while but never picked it up because I always had other books to read. I grabbed it impulsively and started reading it during my lunch break. It was so interesting that I had to take it home and find out what happened to Jack and Euri. Jack is a smart kid that always feels a little different than his fellow students and when he is hit by a car his perception of the world changes. He is able to see ghosts and is lead into the Underworld by a ghost name Euri. This is a rework of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth but with many secret truths of New York City mixed in. This book is really fun because it assumes you have an understanding of some of the Greek myths. It would be a great pairing with a Greek myth lesson or book talk. Now Percy Jackson is not the only one out there for tweens! The characters are well formed and you really feel for Jack and Euri as their back stories come to light. Jack is searching for his Mother in the Underworld and Euri is desperate to leave. All the while Jack is being hunted down because living people should not interact with the dead. It is a suspenseful book and very entertaining! I would almost compare it to Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere but for the tween set. The world was similar to our own but it has that slight offset that makes the world so interesting.
