I had to read it 10 years ago, I finally did it. Stendhal is a good writer, very pleasant style but he lacks empathy for his characters and more generally for human beings... however i ended up in liking Julien Sorel- un june homme d'ambition- and that's certainly a good novel, about french plotics, clergy, ways of life

The problem with books like this, like covers of popular songs, is that they hardly ever live up to the original. While the original "Rebecca" was a masterpiece that practically served as template for most Romantic gothic literature that followed, "Rebecca's Tale" is a lackluster novel only a die-hard "Rebecca" fan would stomach to finish. The characters are unappealing and even the promise of learning more about Rebecca, Maxim de Winter's mysterious first wife, does not hold one's attention throughout the book. I suppose that's why I found it in the sale bin in the first place.

I thought this book was really good while I was reading it. It really gives you an insider's view to life in France during the war and kind of what it was like for the average person. At the end too, they give notes for the second part she never got to and her thought process is amazing. She puts so much detail into it that it made it more interesting.

The imagery is poetic, but the writing is too often awkward.

So, I had to review this one, because I wrote a book that built on it called Forget The Parachute, Let Me Fly the Plane (check it out at [http://www.forgettheparachute.com]) While I'm a huge fan of what Bolles did with this book, I think that this book is more useful as a reference manual than as a "step by step" job-hunting guide. It has some brilliant advice, and I think it should be on everyone's book shelf. But I felt the need to write a book because of the short-comings of this one in the new information economy.

I held this book in my hands with a sense of dread as each page passed by my eyes. I felt anguish for this fallen but not worthless man that was the main male character of the novel.

A captivating Crais book, one of the masters of detective/adventure/buddy ficition. Good to see Pike get another novel of his own, with Cole as the sidekick. Pike finds himself following through on his word to proect Dru Rayne, despite increasing evidence that she isn't who she claimed to be, and that the truth will be ugly. As usual, he and Elvis finish it together, and we see a little bit of their heart in the process.

I've never studied prehistory properly - my history degree mostly concentrated on the Early Modern period - but I found this book completely fascinating. I've read it three times now! Obviously I don't have the academic background to be able to judge it properly but it at least seemed a really scholarly account and it was well written, which isn't a very common combination! Definitely recommended.

Though slow at first, once the pace picked up, I was hooked. Elder is a resident on a ship heading towards a new earth, a ship he's next in line to lead. Amy is also on the ship, but cryogenically frozen, and will be unfrozen when the ship arrives on the new planet. But something goes wrong, and Amy is woken up 50 years ahead of schedule. Elder and Amy race against the clock to unveil the plot of the ship's tyrannical current ruler, Eldest. Revis expertly switches the narrative between Amy and Elder, allowing us to see inside the minds of both characters and feel the oppressive claustrophobia of the ship. Anyone who is leery about reading a science fiction book should rest assured; though the setting is important, it is not overpowering, and the plot could very well take place in a different environment.

This is one of the best books that I ever read!!! I enjoyed this semi-biographical, part fictional, account of Jack's life. In my opinion this book was a lot more interesting than On The Road. Which I never finished. I wish that they had this book for the nook, and then I would probably read it again. The style of this book reminds me a lot of one of the books I'm reading now "A Separate Reality" by Carlos Castaneda. Don't know when I read this book it was several, at least 20 years ago back when I was in college. But this is a book that I would definitely recommend to anybody.

Bir arkadaşım bana Land of Men'i önerdi. Peter
