I adored Loving Frank by Nancy Horan so I thought I would enjoy The Paris Wife too. Lo and behold, I did. I honestly didn't know much about Ernest and the others of The Lost Generation and this book opened the door to a whole world for me. Wikipedia was thoroughly combed after I finished this book.

The first of the series, I actually had to wait for my local library to transfer this book so I could read it. I originally thought it looked interesting, and looked forward to reading it. However, I found myself disappointed. Although it had it's bright points, I found myself skipping over many, many pieces of the book, either because the plot was moving super slow, or whenever she (the main character) had DETAILED "physical interaction" between her and her current lover. Perhaps I am being a little conservative, but because of the focus on Joanne's bedroom activities, the story line and characterization lost important detail that would have improved this work. The unnecessary additions, and lack of strong characters and storyline transfigured a unique and interesting idea into a confusing piece of weak material. Had the idea been more developed, instead of Joanne's flirtatious conquests, maybe I would have enjoyed this book.

It's not the most well written novel ever, but it's fun to read because of all of the historical facts and the way that they are discovered to the reader

I've been to Hawaii five times, and somehow knew next to nothing about its history. Coincidentally, the last time I was in Hawaii was the first time I read Sarah Vowell. I brought a new copy of "Assassination Vacation" that I'd gotten for Christmas and read it while basking in the sun and the warm tropical breeze. I found it funny that her latest book was about Hawaii, and knew I had to give it a read. "Unfamiliar Fishes" is no "Assassination Vacation", unfortunately. I suppose part of what made the latter so amusing was the fact that so much of it was about her traveling to these places and mixing in history, whereas Vowell's personal life and commentary really takes a back seat here to the facts. I learned a lot about the depressing history of Hawaii being Christianized and taken over by the US, lots of neat facts that I probably wouldn't have picked up otherwise. For instance, found it really fascinating that until the missionaries got there and insisted that one's soul could not be saved until they READ the bible, the Hawaiian language had not been a written language, and the missionaries basically took care of that for them. So, they brought a little good along with a lot of imperialistic goals. However... this will sound really lame but I don't really like reading straight-up history books, and I read this strictly because it was written by Vowell. I was expecting a lot more of her trademark sass. How she could quite integrate that in with the subject matter is a different matter- but often I found my eyes glazing over.

It wasn't a bad book and i liked all the characters in it however, it seemed to me that not a lot really happened in it which was similar to the last book. I understand that a lot of what is happening is set up for the final book but that didn't stop me getting bored with some things and just wishing things would hurry up. It also seemed to me that some things which appeared to be being set up nicely in the last book just came to an abrupt end in this one. I liked it, but i'm not dying for the next one although i will read it.

A scientist discovers a drug that makes people fall in love, a pretty scary thought. When a ruthless businessman hears of it, he sees its potential to further his megalomaniac ambitions. Of course, there is a fly in the ointment when someone discovers what he's up to as his plans unfold. The subject matter made a change from the usual thrillers, I found it enjoyable without being outstanding.

It was okay. Somewhat repetitious and tended to lose my interest. As a result, took me too long to finish.

4.5 STARS Molly Bryant is a new voice in the YA genre that every one should read. I would like to say a big thank you to Molly for letting me read her un-edited manuscript before being published (aug 2011). Wandering Souls is a awesome book which sucked me right in to the story world Molly Bryant has created and keep me up all night reading it. Wandering Souls is very well written and was a total pleasure to read from the amazing characters to the plot that had an edge you don't normaly find in YA which is one of the main reasons that I found myself loving it so much. Molly Bryant didn't shy away from writing about sex and abuse and told of it in a tasteful way when I find other YA books mostly avoid these topic's. Favourite Quote "I live to remember,I live to find you" I loved all of Wandering Souls and the cliff hanger ending. i pray that there will be a 2nd book as i need more of Tatum and Lance. If there is going ro be a 2nd book I would love more of Lance's story and maybe the book told from both of there POV'S but thats just me because I love books told from two different types of POV'S. One last thing please please Molly let me re-read Wandering Souls when it has been edited and ready to be published. :)
