This is two books blended into one [just like coffee] - one, the human story of building coffee republic, the soul searching of Sahar and Bobby after their father's death, the journey, the obstacles and goof-ups and all; the other, more like a business book, with 57 laws, advise and sample business plans etc. From the structure, it seemed that the authors wanted to make it the latter - a business advise book. I have, however, given a 5-star to the former, the human story. Dont read it if you are just looking for how to start a business handbook. There are those free guides from Business Link which will do better. Not only that - once you read this book, you may start feeling that you got to be incredibly lucky and well-placed [read the comments about going without an income for two years in other reviews] to become an entrepreneur. That's not the morale of this story here, at all. But if you are looking for a real story how people build a business, you will find it right here. All in the package - starting with the motivation [Father's death and introspection in this case], the idea [Not a new microchip, but something they noticed and enjoyed in US], the development [Sahar moving around with a camera in New York, the business plan, the failures] and the actual process of business [getting a site, a loan, suppliers, employees and customers, complete with goof-ups and strokes of luck]. The best bit of the book? You will have to wait till the end. No, I am not trying to give out the plot - but I am sure you will discover why this real, humane story of entrepreneurship deserved a 5-star.

Super easy read. Finished in one sitting. The storyline has picked up for me and there are two characters that are now more porminant for the first time and this was a definately plus. The "struggle" for the lead character is becoming more interesting. Oh and best line of the entire book...."I am not your Dad"....:)

Mixed review. Keep in mind that this story was written I believe in the mid to late 80's, so it's a bit dated. I really wish they would have made some updates before re-releasing it, because part of this story had a bit of an "ick factor" in it for me. Loved the story of Fleur and Jake and thought it was great. Very, very touching story. Loved the telling of the feelings about Vietnam and the emotional baggage that often results by being in war. I loved both characters and it was great to see Fleur fall and rise....A strong character. Also loved her actress friend Kissy and her charming, talented, gay brother Michelle. Both were very strong characters and added much to the story. Now to Fleur's mother, father and step-father. All the biggest form of scum on the planet in my opinion. While I think that was the point, I think the point could have been made in a different way than to have both her father and stepfather be really phedofiles.....how creepy is that....and her mother pretty much just went along with whatever they thought was best becaue they had money or were famous...This was complete ick and changed what might have been a 4 or 5 star book to barely a 3. ICK ICK ICK......I understand that her mother was 19, but the men were nearly 40 and over 50 and it was mentioned that they had been with teenagers....ICK ICK ICK
