This is a very interesting book about a handful of individuals with oddball personalities and poor social skills (traits I obviously identify with :o) who made a bunch of money shorting mortgage backed securities via the purchase of credit default swaps during the housing bubble. Lewis writes in his usual and engaging and entertaining style. You'll simultaneously laugh at some of the antics and dialog of the characters (such as "f-you, I'm short your f-ing house"), shake your head at the stupidity of those who were making subprime loans and going long on the securities created from them, and feel outraged that taxpayers bailed out the stupidest rich people in history (if you aren't already outraged at this, which you should be). If you want a fast and entertaining read as well as being educated about the financial crisis, you need to read this book. You'll learn about credit default swaps, collateralized debt obligations, "tranching", and how the rating agencies were gamed by Wall Street. That is, you'll learn about stuff you never knew existed but ended up costing you, the taxpayer, a ton of money. Brad Pitt has already purchased the movie rights to the book, and you know the movie won't be as good as the book. I just found out today, via the blog entitled "Kids Prefer Cheese" (http://mungowitzend.blogspot.com/2011...) that a bond trader named Wing Chau that Lewis (rightly) rips on in the book is suing Lewis for libel. An unintentionally funny copy of the lawsuit is here. It's almost like Chau wrote up the complaint himself: http://www.zerohedge.com/article/look...
