I wanted to like this more than I did, but I suspect my inability to be more enthusiastic about this novel was more due to my unfamiliarity with the Culture universe than anything else. If nothing else, is has made me curious enough about previous novels that I'll be checking them out sometime later on, once I have some time to absorb a little better.

I can see why Entirely Surrounded never really made it past the first printing- it's very much a book specific to time and place, and I don't think it would be very enjoyable to anyone who didn't know what it was parodying. It's about several of the members of the Algonquin Round Table, hanging out on Neshobe Island in Vermont. The main character/narrator/author avatar ends up spending some time hanging out with loosely disguises parodies of Alexander Woollcott, Dorothy Parker, Neysa McMein, Alice Duer Miller, and Harold Ross. It was rather short and fluffy, and hardly worth the trouble of tracking it down.

Princesses these days don't just wander through the forest singing to woodland creatures and waiting for their prince. This princess braves a shipwreck, disguises herself as a sailor and weaves her own tale on her way to winning the prince's heart. It's a charming, if a bit predictable, take on the modern fairytale. Both Jamin (age 6) and Mya (age 3) enjoyed it, although it was a bit long to keep Mya's attention in places.

The story of Yoko and her long journey from Korea back to Japan. Everything that might happen does happen and everything she sees puts a OMG in my mouth sometimes. Best part? She stays faithful to her younger self, including the selfish parts and unknowing parts. Excellent memoir!
