This is definitely a Great read so far, but I must admit, that Chapter 4 is a wee bit too abstract/"floaty" to me, but again, I am not a physicist! Gribbin is doing a god job at explaining and visualising complex theories to a layman such as myself... Have to admit that it does give me more questions about the nature of our universe! :) Highly recommendable!

It has been quite some time since I read the last edition in this series, so at first I was excited to see that there would be another volume. But the thought of having to possibly re-read the last five books was really turning me off to the thought of reading this volume. So when I won a copy, I thought I would give it a whirl. I received the book in the mail day before yesterday and since I had finished the book I was reading, decided to pick this volume up and read it next. After all, one of the reasons I had the advance copy was to read it and write a review. So here goes . . . TYPOS! OMG, there are typos EVERYWHERE. I get sidetracked, have to stop, find a pen, circle the typo and page number before I can move on. So far, the book is all about visiting other cave groups, gatherings or sacred cave tours. I'm hoping there is a story in here somewhere, but so far it reads like someone's vacation journal. " . . .we went here, we saw this, here's what we did". I keep slogging my way through, hoping that something will kick in for me. FINALLY! Part 3 came along and at last we have a story, some tension, a crescendo and resolution! While I did not fall in love with the book, I did really enjoy the last part, so increased my rating from two stars to three. The book provided a measure of closure for me as far as this series goes. The last part was tense, sweet and touching; much as I remembered from the previous tales. Regardless of what I say, the book will probably do well with a new generation of readers and the re-release of the previous volumes, but for me, I had said good-bye to Ayla and Jondalar many years ago.

To understand why this is written the way it is, you need to read the Afterword. But once I'd gotten to that point, I no longer cared; I was mostly glad it was over.

Shallow characters + unengaging story + inability of iTunes to keep the tracks straight when I "borrowed" it from the library cds = abandoned So many books, so little time, can't stay with one I'm not going to love.

** spoiler alert ** When i read the book i was completly suprised about who it turned out, don't get me wrong i loved the book and am currently looking around for the second one. but when i brought the book i had no idea the book would be about a stalker and a boy that see things when he touches people and most of all i was not expecting that stalker to be boyfriend/friend/best friend at all! but overall Deadly Little Secret was an amazing book with twists around every page. :P x

Just like an object at home, a book has to be either useful or beautiful.

I really enjoyed reading this travel book on China. I wish I had read it before we had our chinese exchange student from Chengdu stay with us. I would have been much more prepared and possibly more understanding. J. Maarten Troost is hilarious and I am amazed at his ability to eat almost anything. I am a little jealous of that ability!! The exchange students visiting Portland had never seen blue sky before and after reading this book I can see why.

The design of the book is quite nice. I enjoyed the segments on each of the different laws and thought the examples or famous leaders, warriors, kings, queens, princes, etc. were all very interesting. I really like that the Greene included reversals and warnings for each of the laws. Maybe it is to be expected, but there were many contradictions from one law to another. One law either completely contradicts or partially one or more of the others. For entertainment and a tool to ponder, it's a good read. You can use it like a bibliomancy too. Ask yourself a question and randomly open to a passage or a law, read it aloud then ask yourself - how does this apply or how could this (and the reversal) apply to my question. It's a bit of fun. Still, worthwhile at the remainder price for the historical and mythological anecdotes.

fast paced, can't put me down, who-dunnit. The first Connelly I'd read and definitely one of the best. It isn't wierd or overly gory, so a good thriller/crime novel.
