I love this book. Way more graphic than the movie but also a lot more detailed and the story moves very well. An intricate book, Bret Easton Ellis is one of my favorite authors I think.

An English mystery in the 1400's. I ended up liking this book although I didn't like it at first. There was actually a plot to the story, unlike so many mysteries, and you actually get a feel for the characters and care about the outcome for them. That being said, it took the author forever to get to the murder you knew was coming. It would have been better not to read the back cover so you didn't know part of the story. If a mystery authors have plots in their stories, it is going to take longer to get to the actual mystery. I also liked Sister Frevisse's way of sharing little bits of wisdom and advice while she tells the story. She was an opinionated woman! Would definitely read more of these books!

Plot: The plot in this one was much more intense. It kept me more interested than the past ones, but I still felt like it was too short. Characters: The characters didn't change much from the past books. Setting: The place they are at is the same, but they did move around a little and reconstructed their buildings. Overall: I feel like this series is being hurriedly put together. I don't dislike it, and I do plan on finishing it, but I wish the stories from book to book flowed together better.

Just a lovely book about growing up, the loss of the security of childhood, friendship and family. Elise lives with her Aunt and Uncle, an orphan at 3 when her father dies (her mother died in childbirth). She is surrounded by loving adults and a friend who loves her and who she loves with no bounds. All this changes when they start middle school, the transition from fifth grade to sixth, much rougher than anyone would think. Bullies, being ashamed of friends, not knowing who she wants to be, Elise hates going to school. Surely, everything will change when she turns 12. But the day after 11 feels just like the day before, with one change: the first of 8 keys appear that will open the eight locked doors in the barn that may help her become the person she is meant to be. I absolutely loved this book- the feeling of shame when Elise turns against her friend, the despair of meeting her nemesis every morning at their locker, the teasing and bullying no one else seems to see or hear- it all rings so true. Elise needs to find her way and the love of the people around her help to form the path she will travel. It's also funny and light in a number of places and adults reading it will remember all too well the joy of playing in leaves and chasing each other with swords made out of branches. Kids may find a character that will help them find options to the horrors encountered in a middle school hallway.

To give a proper synopsis of this book is difficult, many characters are introduced in this first installment of the "First Law"-Series and if I really think about it – not much essential happens it´s more a setting for the story to come. But it isn´t boring at all – on the contrary! I´ve read the book in a very short time because I wanted to learn more about the interesting main characters who are real "anti-heroes" only brought together by Bayaz the Magi to save the world. The characters are well-drawn never only good or bad, the plot is interesting, the writing style is humorous and you get insight into the characters and their train of thoughts. Nearly every protagonist has his fav. saying, I liked Logen´s "You have to be realistic about these things" best. All in all I can highly recommend this book if you´re interested to read an exceptional fantasy book!
