Having recently read for the first time A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway, The Paris Wife (a novel about their years in Paris told by his first wife, Hadley) was a delightful companion piece. The first chapters were a little slow for me, but that's because I read more commercial fiction which usually maintains a quicker pace and less backstory. Even with the early slowness, I really enjoyed this book. It gave me a new way of looking at Ernest Hemingway and the writers of that era. It also helped me understand how other authors who spent time in Paris in the 20's weaved their views on life into their books--F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby especially. Also, Paula McLain did a deft job of making me believe I was reading an actual memoir of Hadley's, and her use of description, the motivations and goals of the characters were extremely believable. A great read!

Divine! I was hooked within 2 pages and read it through with voracious delight. Much more uplifting and simply happy than the subject matter would imply. I recommend this book and would love to hear back from you your impressions and pleasures in reading this well crafted, unique story.

Wonderful book, though slow reading as the writer is very thorough in his interior analysis of Henry James. Made me want to read more by this author as well as Henry James' work. I don't think seeing the film adaptations counts. :-)

It is hard not to hate Jonah Lehrer for being only 26 and having written two amazingly well-selling books and received a Rhodes Scholarship... and also being far from butt ugly. That said, this book is really fun. The idea in it I think I found most fascinating is that emotion is actually part of rationality, rather than being its opposite; for example, people with damaged frontal lobes have trouble making decisions. Lehrer also argues that our emotional reactions to things tend to be (or at least can be) the result of subconscious weighing of options, and in some situations turn out to lead to better choices than conscious analysis. Anyway, like I said, good stuff, and it's a pretty quick, light read. I will probably pick up Proust Was a Neuroscientist at some point, though it's not immediately jumped to the top of my to-read list.

I thought that this book was great. I also thought it was fun to read. My favorite part was when Greg Heffley and his friend Rowley made the comic strips.

Excellent. I found it very helpful in describing the various viewpoints concerning earth's origins. The book's authors also offer a website for additional information.

I only am saying I "read" this because I wasted a good few weeks getting through over half the book before I finally abandoned it - sorry Meaghan, but this does not get my seal of approval.

This book is intense. If you've never read Stephen King and you'd like a quick one to give you an idea, this is a good one to pick up. Make sure you don't have much walking to do over the next week.

I love how the heroine in this novel is a very strong female. She has a strong sense of who she is and her passion of helping others is admirable.
