This was a fascinating book to read while our economic system is imploding. Interesting to get some historical perspective--many of the financial goings-on after the Revolutionary war reminded me of today! Greedy speculators, people manipulating the market, gaming the system... Loved the author's use of two points of view throughout the story. And a cracking good plot to boot.

This book was disgusting, but in that funny way. Like I would think “ewww that’s so gross” but I would be laughing really hard at it. There were Zombie brains and guts flying everywhere but that was kind of expected. The sex is dirty like all kinds of wrong going on in this book with the sex, but it is funny. There is M/F sex and M/M sex and a ‘fade to black’ M/M/M sex and this is not really romance more just action and it was hilarious. Walt and Joey were super cute though and they had some romance, as much as you can when you’re fighting off Zombies and some other surprises.

While the relentlessly commercial, often paint-by-the-numbers approach of this author sometimes drove me crazy, he also had a lot of good workmanlike points to make. The section on what to do when you reread a script (or book) you've written and get that terrible sinking feeling that it's pure trash, for instance: (No, it's not to go throw yourself off the nearest bridge.) Look for 10 possible weaknesses, which he in enumerates, and see if fixing them gives the book a new lease on life. And many more. Definitely helpful. Oh, and I want to add something to those who have negatively compared this book to Robert McKee's "Story". I know that McKee's book is supposed to be the holy Grail, and it sits on my bookshelf, but somehow I can't get through it. The writing feels turgid. Snyder's book, while facile and superficial in some ways, was clearly (sometimes amusingly) written and easy to follow.

This is a powerful story. A drama set in, you guessed it, Montana in 1948. It's told from the point of view of a 12 year boy, son of the town sheriff, who learns of his uncles' crimes against members of the nearby native american community. great writing, intense story and an ending that i'm still processing.

This was a fun read, though the world Larbalestier has built has a similar feel to Westerfeld's Uglies (no surprise there) and The Hunger Games, so I kept expecting more intense action. In fact, if someone had said this story had been set in the Capitol from the Hunger Games, I would have believed it. Anyway, it's a fluffy read, somewhat humorous, and the one serious take on action mentioned about three-quarters of the way into the story and promptly ignored. Not a bad boredom-buster for a lazy afternoon.
