I looked down in while I was reading the end of the book and noticed I was 99% done. How is that possible? There are a million questions to wrap up? And then I reached the cliffhanger. AAAAAAA! Now I have to wait for the next book. While Archer is a delectable warlock...I'm still in Cal's corner. He unconditionally saves the day and he's still mysterious. My bet is in the end, Sophie will end up with him.

This book is yet another testament to Wolfe's dedication to researching a subject so thoroughly, he becomes the subject - in this case, Charlotte, the naive, small-town girl, off to make her way at a big university.

I liked this book, but not as much as "Okay for Now." Maybe it's due to me reading them out of order, but Holling's life just didn't seem as desperate as Doug's, and his story didn't move me as much. Holling Hoodhood is a quiet but sweet seventh grader. His home life is better than Doug's, but not by much. His dad is an arrogant and miserable man, while his mother is meek and unwilling to stand up to her husband for her children. I almost disliked her MORE than his dad for what she didn't do. His older sister, Heather, is going through a phase and fights with their dad almost nonstop. Because Holling is the only Presbyterian in a classroom full of Catholics and Jews, he has to spend Wednesday afternoons with his teacher while the other students are off doing church activities. (Granted, this book takes place in the late 60s, but I had never heard of students being allowed to miss school for a religious activity.) He thinks his teacher is out to get him by making him clean the classroom and read Shakespeare. But slowly, he realizes her intent and what she is trying to teach him. This book WAS a little young for me, but it didn't stop my enjoyment. There were several humorous moments involving rats and running, Shakespearean plays and fairies, and camping. There were also sweet moments involving his sister, baseball, and his friends. Overall, this was a quick and enjoyable read.

Thorougly enjoyed, absurd sense of humor but somehow believable.Think is is the best of the Hiaasen books I've read so far. Haissen doesn't leave you wondering at the end of the book. You know it has ended well.

Urban Swan Lake story. The illustrations (done on slabs of blacktop) are phenomenal. The story is extremely lyrical and I could hear the hip-hop edge. Great quick read, taking me less than 15 minutes WITH admiration of the artwork.
