Contrary to what I expected, I liked the dog narrator! He was the only appealing character. I did not like the hamfisted melodrama - the simplistic "evil" character/plot device choices were offensive. For the book discussion group. I would not have chosen to read a book about racing - with a dog as a narrator, no less! - but I'm glad I did. It was a quick, simple read.

Anne Lamott is a sensitive, sappy, touchy-feely writer but crunchy as she may be I quite like her stuff. She gives you a sense that she's openning up everything to you, and inviting you in with a big ole patchuli hug.

Interesting book. It reminded me of Wikinomics in its discussion of bringing people together with a groundswell of action, working together towards a common goal no matter where you are physically located. It's a great way to look at the new world we live in. As individuals, I believe we do all face becoming commodities as the world gets smaller. "Stability is an illusion" may sound scary, but it's also helpful to face reality head on. Finding your "tribe" and actively thinking about what's important to you (and special ABOUT you) is an empowering idea. Plus, the first page mentions Joel Spolsky, whose blog and podcasts I enjoy, so that sucked me in right off the bat :) A must-read for the Social Media aware!

This 1967 paperback, acquired from an outdoor dollar stall in my neighborhood was published by Frederick A. Praeger and is titled American Art Since 1900: A Critical History. This is my second copy, my original having been lent to a non-returner many year ago. Noting its publication date, it would better be titled "American Art from 1900-1965" - anyway, its principal interest is the earlier stuff (since the Abstract Expressionists and beyond have been pretty thoroughly documented). The early part of the century produced the group that called themselves The Eight, although deprecated as The Ash Can School (Robert Henri, William Glackens, John Sloan, George Luks, Everett Shinn et al), Alfred Steiglitz's 291 Fifth Avenue circle and the 1913 Armory show, all of which are quite fascinating. Also of suddenly greater personal interest are the number of early 20th century American painters who did views of the Brooklyn Bridge, many seemingly from the vantage point of the Fulton Ferry Park.

I love Alex and Jack, I hope there will be a spin off with Lila's brother! Lila grew up, even she remains impulsive. The thriller is great and the story around Lila's family is very interesting. I hope there will be a third book :)

Nights of Rain and Stars was the second Binchy's novel I read so far. Like the first one, The Glass Lake, I love reading it much. Binchy is bestselling author from Ireland. I never heard about her until I read The Glass Lake. Her two novels are about story of commeon people upon a time, but written very beautifully. That make them very special for me. Nights of Rain and Stars is about four people from four other countries who met in place called Aghia Anna. It a small travel island, lies in Greece. I searched it in Google so I know this island is really exist. Elsa from Germany, Thomas an American, Fiona from Ireland and David from England came to Aghia Anna with their own problem. They met each other in Andreas' taverna when a tragedy that changed their life forever happened. With the help of Vonny, an Irish woman, they found the answers of their problem, though in other ways they expected.

This is my favoritest (yes, I said that) play ever. It is funny and charming and tragic and slightly whimsical and hugely intelligent, but all easily accessible. Since I can't recommend you see the actual play on a book forum, I would say read this play, then wait a day, and read it again and see how much more you get out of it. Plus, it's a play, so it should only take you an hour or so to read.

Nothing like I expected from an author of Linda Howard's caliber. It was a total disappointment. Even the lead characters were less than interesting. The bear indeed had a POV -- which didn't much interest me, either. It hurts to review and rate this book so low because I've been a fan of LH's books for many years. She's had some of the best romantic suspense novels I've ever read. Her heroes are almost always exceptional. However, there's just nothing I can say about "Prey" except I just didn't like it from the first page to the last page.
