** spoiler alert ** One of my favorite books ever and my favorite dog book, and Ive read alot of dog books though the years. I found the historical information about dogs interesting but it was the relationship between Ted and Merle that was so captivating and touching to me. Being from the west, I also enjoyed the vivid descriptions of the landscapes. As for the ending...I can only say that I sobbed my way through it. I have absolutely no criticism of how Ted handled Merles passing. As someone else said, there is no easy way. I think he did what he did out of love for Merle, but also because it was so hard to let him go...I understand that and cant judge him. I was so touched by this book that I wrote the author who wrote me back which I have never had happen before. I have to admit it made the book even more special to me.

I really enjoyed Gail Caldwell's book. To have had such a close friendship and to lose it, so poignant and so heartfelt. Her descriptions are gut-wrenching. Her relationship with her dog strikes a chord. All in all a good (if sad) story, well-told.

I read this in 2000. I remember enjoying the story... great concept. Then I saw the movie and that sucked (and not in a good way.) -- Hang on... I dug up my review from my archives: Stephen King credits Matheson as being the writer who most influenced his own writings and Arnold Schwarzenegger is (or was) interested in making a movie out of this story (starring himself). So, I wanted to check out what they were so jazzed about. Matheson is perhaps better known as the author of What Dreams May Come, which was turned into a mediocre movie starring Robin Williams as a man who journeys to the afterlife in search of his wife. I Am Legend is about Robert Neville, who, though he's the last man on Earth, isn't necessarily alone. Every other man, woman, and child on the planet has either succumbed to a mysterious plague or has been turned into a vampire. By day Neville travels around the area driving stakes into the hearts of the sleeping vampires. By night he barricades himself in his protected house, surrounded by garlands of garlic. Bummer, huh? This brief novel was written in 1954 and takes place in the future of 1976. It's entertaining enough and has a couple of good plot twists, nothing great though. But I think the story would translate well — in an updated fashion — to a modern horror movie.

An interesting collection of techniques. Some are great, some are silly, but there's enough here to make it a worthwhile part of the bookshelf.

This book was ho-hum. The examples were interesting and some of them were thought provoking, but too much "me me me" from Heller ("aren't I a clever boy").

"Devil Tales" is not the finest writing ever on Matt Wagner's part, but visually it is one of his most experimental - and striking - works. He conveys simultaneity gorgeously here. Well worth a read every couple of years or so.

I have been one of Myke Cole's alpha readers for many years, and think this is by far his best work. Control Point has an original premise: what if magic returned to the modern world and only one person in a million could access it? Answer: They'd be drafted. This is a stellar book, combining all the military realism of Black Hawk Down with the social commentary and awesome spectacle if the X-Men. I highly recommend it and will write a more lengthy review closer the the pub date.

I thought that the story was uniquely portrayed. We don't think about our freedom of choice until it's taken from us. Can you imagine a place where you were told who to marry, what to say, and how to dress? That isn't living, that is in all reality a prison. The glorious world around is slowly being destroyed bit by bit, it's time for us to stand up and do something about it. This book will fuel that desire to make change happen.

This was the first Shopaholic book that I read, and it encouraged me to read all of the others. As I was reading it while I was planning my wedding, I found a lot to identify with (all of the parental expectations) and a lot to laugh at.
