Dolly Freed was 19 when she wrote the book, based on her and her father’s experiences living on the cheap. It’s some unusually wise reasoning on the front-end, and some good practical advice on ways to make ends meet on the other: “We can afford to be lazy because we satisfy our material needs with little effort and little money. Of course, you know that money doesn’t buy only goods and services, it also buys prestige and status. Being somewhat egocentric, we don’t feel the need to buy prestige or status. The neat trick that Diogenes pulled was to turn the tables on those of his contemporaries who believed that ‘Life is a game and money is how you keep score.’ He didn’t keep score. We don’t keep score. You needn’t keep score either if you don’t want to. It’s entirely up to you.” You can also find the book on-line at http://www.f4.ca/text/possumliving.htm

A quick read, you'll like it of you're into wondering why it might be easier to instantly click with some people or activities and not others. For a while it was sounding like a how-to which turned me off but then I started enjoying the anecdotes that illustrated the points they were making. It was easy to think about my own experiences of clicking and see one or two of the "7 accelerators" present that make it easier to click.

I am kind of annoyed with Goodreads for apparently not adding the reviews I write in the iPad app onto my actual account (that I see on my computer). Do others see my review, or...not so much? I could swear I wrote one! Anyway...I have had this book on my list of "Want to Read" for quite some time and after our last book discussion decided I must read it sooner rather than later. That, and I noticed Patrick Rothfuss had it on his own personal Top 50 Recommended Books List. That sealed the deal. (I went to the library for it, so sorry I cannot share it with you.) I really liked this book and would highly recommend it, but what I really want to know is - did this book inspire others like it or was it the first (flying animal linked to human telepathically and bonded for life)? If it was the first, then I understand why it is such an important work. If it was not, then while I enjoyed it, I am not sure what all the fuss is about. I have to believe it must have been the the first of that particular genre, but then I am left wondering why everyone is so enthralled with Avatar? (Okay, that was a movie, not a book, and the cinematography or whatever you call it was, truly excellent and just downright beautiful; but then didn't he kinda steal this idea from Anne McCaffrey? I would be sort of upset if I was her...) Moving on...read it. It's good. :-)

"Sphere" held me in its squid-like grip from beginning to end. Although it's not as believable as the other Crichton books I've read, its suspense and eery psychology more than make up for it. This book kept me deeply engrossed and was definitely worth reading.

I'd like to read this again. I don't remember it well, except for being really interested.

Tolkien's last book. Just published by his son. So far, it's a fascinating read, although a bit hard to follow, as expected when reading Tolkien. There is major emphasis placed on geneology, and that bogs you down a bit. I will update when I am finished reading it.
