I didn't like the first part of the book! I thought it was kinda boring! But the second part was amazing! I loved it! It gets really mysterious and exciting towards the end!

I've read a few books in the zombie genre and while they are a big part of the book, it was more of a post-apocalyptic book for me. I like the core of idea of being held back by the constraints of the society that Mary is a part of and her need to find out what exists beyond the sheltered existence she has led. I think there are lots of aspects of Mary's society that are very interesting and it really drives home the idea of how quickly history can be lost or molded to protect or control, especially a small society cut off from any other human contact. The thing I found a bit frustrating was the lack of detail provided in the story. I kept trying to visualize things, but could only come up with a hazy sketch. (What are they wearing, what type of technology is still left, what do their houses look like, how big is the village and how many people live there, what is the climate like, how do they make and distribute what they need to survive.) I also found some of the jumps in action very disorienting - at times I couldn't quite piece together how character got places or who was even there. (*spoiler* the best example of this is when they are on the path outside the village deciding whether to go into the unknown or try to go back into the village and suddenly Jed and Beth are there out of the blue.) While I understand Mary doesn't have our frame of reference, I felt like there could have been a richer detail in explaining these things that would help us feel the constrictions of her life better and her yearning for learning what might exist beyond the small patch of humanity she lives within. I am interested to see where the next book leads and learn more about this world.

This is more than a 3 star read, but not quite enough to round up to 4 stars. The potential for a fabulous story carried me through until a sudden shift in point of view. The main character, Bull, seemed to take a back seat to Sarah and the action became hers, with Bull fading into the background like a supporting actor. I lost a bit of interest at that point. Bull's character and background were more interesting, and though I was sympathetic to Sarah, she would have been better as a support to Bull. In fact, the dynamic between Bull and Ramblin' John Hastur was excellent. With Sarah, the tension was lost since she never actually met Hastur. The story abruptly changed focus to her family and background. As for zombies, and gore - the horror elements were all there. For some reason I was less drawn into those scenes than I have been with other horror stories, such as HORNS by Joe Hill. I'm not certain why - just saying. On the positive side, SOUTHERN GODS plot and characters, especially Hastur and Bull, were very well drawn. This was quite a decent book, and one I'll remember for several elements, such as oily mouth'ed zombies.

From everything I've heard the twilight series have been by far on of the most exquisite books! In Twilight, tells you of a human girl who currently moves into a small town where she soon meets a young men without knowing turns out to be a Vampire. Falls in love with him, then the rest a mystery. I could just say its a romance thrilling book!

I really liked this book. I actually read it in one day! It's a definite page-turner and makes you think about marriage and family in a different light. I had the privilege of hearing Victoria Christopher Murray speak about the book during a book fest. I will say that it took a bit to get into it because the beginning covers many details and kind of drags on with some of them - but you totally forget that by the end because you become captivated by the story. Great read!

The Great War and the Great Game continue. This time the entire Emerson clan follows Ramses on his assignment to Gaza. Meanwhile, they have hired a very competent, eager young, Egyptian girl, and her lazy, incompetent brother, who may be involved in the discovery and pilfering of a very important tomb. They are also having to deal with an obnoxious American famnily who seems bent on openly dealing in stolen antiquities. All in all, it's just anoher season in Egypt for the Emersons, which is always a delight for readers!
