Gahhhh, LOVED THIS SO FREAKING MUCH!!! I was in the middle of reading another book, but on release day, I tossed it aside, ran to the book store and bought myself a copy of this. I'm sorry to other authors, but whenever a Vampire Academy/Bloodlines book comes out it trumps anything else. I actually loved 'Bloodlines' and I thought 'The Golden Lily' was even better. The first book was mostly amazing because of all the hilarious things Adrian said, but this book didn't have to depend on oneliners to keep me interested. Now that all the introductions and situations have been setup, the second book was able to delve more into the characters themselves. Except for the last 80 pages, there wasn't even that much action in it compared to the last book, but I wasn't bored a single bit. I told myself I was going to space out the chapters, which didn't work because I have no self-control. I would've read it all in one sitting, except for bathroom/food breaks and then I fell asleep on the freaking couch 40 pages before the end. The ending had me so sucked in and when I hit the final page I was sort of upset because I didn't want the book to end already. I feel like I should have been more pissed off by the final pages and how things ended, but I'm strangely okay with it. I seriously squealed like a crazy fangirl at the (view spoiler). Thank god I was home alone haha. I was so freaking happy that what happened happened and it's given me certainty that Adrian and Sydney are meant to be. I'm just going to have to wade through five more books of conflict and anguish before it happens. I love Sydney as a protagonist so much. I was a bit iffy at first if she could win me over completely after so many books of kickass Rose, but I can officially say I love her character. Not that Sydney is now a fighting warrior woman or anything, but she's starting to really hold her own. I liked seeing her come into herself more and her internal struggle between becoming close with her new vampire friends and her alchemist beliefs. While I'd like for Sydney to accept everything about the moroi and strigoi worlds, it wouldn't be realistic and I actually appreciate the pace things are going at. Her relationship with that Brayden guy was hilarious and had me laughing my face off and how nerdy and unromantic their interactions were. Dates at the textile museum and a windmill farm?? Oh my god it was horrible and I wanted them to break up so badly towards the end. They were just a case of two people who are too much alike to work. I don't really have a whole lot to say about the rest of the characters, though I will sum it up with saying I like Eddie, Jill, and the others more than I used to and they've grown on me. I especially liked Angeline and thought she was super hilarious to read about. Adrian...GAHH!! I'm so obsessed. He was still funny as usual, but the highlight for me was his time spent with Sydney. Back during Vampire Academy, I was firmly on the Rose/Adrian ship of love, but I'm finding myself really loving how well Sydney and Adrian go together and I might even like them more than Rose and Dimitri. After finishing the book, I'm fairly certain that Sydney and Adrian need to hook up, get married and have tons of kids. They are just so damn perfect for one another that it's going to kill me to have to wait for Sydney to get over her own personal prejudices. There was so much more in the romance section in this book. In the first book, I thought Adrian sort of liked Sydney, but it wasn't until this book that I could see Adrian truly falling for her. He was just so adorable. His antics to get close to Sydney were like those of a middleschool boy. It was so obvious that he was into her. I liked how there didn't need to be smoldering looks and near sex to get a reader to believe that the two of them are meant for each other. Sure, Sydney thinks Adrian's pretty cute, but their relationship progressed much more in an emotional sort of way. They just get one another and there's no bullcrap between them. It was cute watching Sydney get more comfortable around Adrian and think of him as a friend instead of a monster or a bloodthirsty vampire. In particular I liked the scenes between them at the self-defense place. Overall, LOVED IT!! The only thing I'm upset about after reading is that I read it so damn fast and now I'm going to have to wait until next year to see what happens next. I don't believe in all the conspiracies, but I swear I will stab someone if the world ends and I never get to find out what happens to Sydney and the group. I want to know how Sydney and Adrian's relationship will progress and what is up with Jill. I have a strange feeling that all the (view spoiler). Hopefully that will get cleared up...
