Not as goood as its predecessor but once you get into it and get to know the new characters its a very compelling read.

Third novel in the series. Some dramatic twists and can't wait to read the last book to find out what happens. Not on the same class as the twilight books, but pretty good and easy read.

The prose of this book is just magical. I guess part of that comes from my particular translation, but I found this to be one of the best-written books I've ever read, in terms of use of language and general story-telling. Dostoyevsky has a few "Orwellian" moments in that he steps out of the novel itself and seems to examine the events as if he himself were reading the novel. I found those parts particularly interesting. Well, I think this book can be taken on a number of levels. Certainly the average American like me will look to the philosophical/ethical themes involved, and the story is rich in that regard. But something tells me I'm missing out on a great deal of the political symbolism, considering I know very little about Russian history. I didn't notice it in the other reviews, but I think the main purpose of this book is to make specific political commentary regarding the time and country in which it was written. Makes me want to know more so that I can understand the specific allegory behind especially Aglaya and Nastasia. Highly recommended.

You HAVE to read "Good In Bed" before you read this book. I read it several years ago, and I was still confused in a few places. I was able to catch up, but I could see where it would be a little frustrating for a new reader. Or not- you don't know what you don't know, right? Maybe it was just frustrating for me b/c I couldn't remember a specific detail from the 1st book, but it didn't change understanding this book. Anyways- this is an awesome book. I liked it b/c it is not only a 'chitlit'/easy beach read, but it could be considered educational. :) The lead characters are Jewish and talk of holidays and traditions I had never heard of. I enjoyed learning about the culture through the book. I like exposure to different ways of life without an agenda getting shoved down my throat. I don't want to put any spoilers in here...BUT- I must warn you..if you take this book anywhere in public, take tissues. Seriously- there are quite a few tearjerkering moments in here. I listened to this on audiobook while painting my bedroom, and I cried like a baby. I had to sit down and just listen several times. I am glad I was listening to it on CD and not reading it b/c I would never have gotten anything done. I would not have set it down. Enjoy!!!

Good ole Clive Cussler book. Not high art, but a fun read.

This is one of the best poet biographies I have ever read. It is enthralling.

I really enjoyed the first third of this book. But as it went on, it just got more and more boring. Maybe I enjoy ancient history more than modern, but I think the writing itself just got too involved and sort of stalled out. I finally gave up without finishing the last chapter.

The plural narration bothers me: "our mother", "our sister", just pick a sister!

I didnt't want to write a review until I had read the entire series, so now that I am done here it goes. It was an interesting young adult series on the whole. It is fantasy/sci-fi, and it had warlocks, demons, vampires, werewolves, and shadowhunters-those chosen by an angel to keep humans safe from demons. It has some fun original ideas mingled with some familiar relationships between vampires and werewolves. It had a compelling story line with a human finding out she can see shadowhunters which are supposed to be invisible to humans, and then she learns that she is a shadowhunter, something her mom has kept from her entire life to protect her from a shadowhunter who has gone bad and is trying to use demons to overthrow the shadowhunter order of things, and also happens to be her evil father, oooh! Over all a fun read, however there were some really lame subplots that bugged big time. I would recommend this series to young adult fiction readers who enjoy a good story, but have to read some ideas they may not agree with to get the entire story. Once again, a fun read, but there is definitely better stuff out there
bad, just bad....*shakes head* very disappointing from the creator of Bridget Jones
