The summary of this book--the IDEA of this book--had me expecting a 5 star read as I first began. But as the book went on and on and on, the stars started dropping one by one. Again, the overarching premise is so interesting! But the actual book itself was too long, had too much graphic sex for my liking, and rarely surprised me. For such a unique story, it had a surprising number of cliche/totally expected moments for me. I don't recommend this book to anyone. I'm giving it 2 stars rather than 1 star because I did find myself caught up in the story, at least initially. That's something, I guess.

Austen is classic. This lesser known novel of hers was featured in the more recent movie "The Lake House," which made me curious. I read it in one sitting because I couldn't bear to put it down. If you enjoy Austen, read this book.

Originally published in 1915, this title is part of a huge series written by naturalist Thornton Burgess. Targeted at early elementary children, they narrate the fanciful adventures of various woodland creatures. They are somewhat similiar to Avi's Poppy and Ereth's Birthday. I read these books as a child and am having great fun re-discovering them. They are popular with homeschooler groups, some of whom beleive nothing written after 1950 is any good. (Burgess died in 1964) Not great literature by any means, but they are fun to read and share with your kids.

I loved this book. I couldn't put it down. It was just one of those books.... it has narrative layers, interesting clues, a unique tone.... once you piece it all together, you have to go back and see how the writer laid it all for you from the beginning. It's creepy. The kind of Joey-in-Friends creepy where you want to put it in your freezer at night so it isn't in the same room wtih you. And what makes it so good is its clever construction. Read it!

I, Alex Cross is well written, could be read fluently and was easy to understand except for some unknown vocabulary as I am no native speaker – but I liked this kind of challenge to learn new words. If you once started to read and were completely in it, you could barely stop going on which was, maybe, because of the frequently changing venues that occurred after almost every new chapter - which was the case within every 2-4 pages. Also the mix of thrill and touching family affairs was a reason that made the book interesting – no part of the narrator’s life was left out which brought some good variety into the reading. So for me it is worth 4 stars easily – though the never ending new characters that appeared all the time were a bit confusing to me.

Wow. This woman is a real survivor. I was especially interested by her question that if your self comes from your mind, but your mind is "shattered" by schizophrenia, then what happens to your self? It's amazing that she's able to hold onto who she is and her goals even when fighting through full blown psychosis.
