This book is a relatively fun read if you enjoyed books like Lewis Carol's original Alice in Wonderland or Norton Juster's The Phantom Tollbooth. Be prepared for a lot of nonsensical adventure, much wordplay, and an absolutely enjoyable way to while away the hours.

Jenna Peterson has captured a startling snapshot of what it meant to grow up titled in Regency England. When little boys were taught that title, breeding, and fortune are everything, and life without them isn’t worth living. I was captivated by the characters right away, and read it straight through to the end without stopping. I felt Rhys’s fear, self-doubt, and self-loathing. And I felt Anne’s love and hope and heartache. Truly a remarkable love story with a touch of naughtiness. Rhys Carlisle was one such boy. Up until the age of thirteen, he made friends with titled and commoner alike. But when Rhys turned thirteen, his father decided it was time Rhys learned what it meant to “follow in his footsteps,” and he learned the lesson very well indeed. Perhaps too well. His arrogance, snobbery, and general lack of compassion were legendary. But underneath it all, Anne knew there lurked a good and honest man. So when Rhys’s best friend, Simon Crathorne, Duke of Billingham, shared bad news with him the day they returned from their honeymoon, he was shaken to his very core. He questioned every principle, every truth he’d known and found himself lacking. So he ran away. Worried sick over her missing husband, Anne discreetly searches for him without luck. Finally, Simon provides a clue to his whereabouts and transportation to get her there, but refuses to tell her why Rhys fled in the first place. Raised to defer to her husband in all matters, Anne must learn to assert herself if she’s to save her marriage. Under her loving guidance, Rhys learns the real truths of life – love, friendship, and compassion for his fellow man. But that’s not enough for him to share his shameful secret with her. What’s worse, he plans to separate from her when they return to London. He’s convinced himself that’s the only way to save her from the savagery of the ton. An intriguing story you won't want to miss.

Lucy Grealy's book is not as strongly written as Ann Patchett's about their friendship.

Julia Child led me on a mission to find joy - really the only way to explain it. I am reading a bunch of books with a food theme and they are all getting mixed into a few epiphanies. One source of joy was this book. I'm not sure I'd have been able to accept much of it if I'd discovered it before, but my soul had been prepared by grief fiction and Julia and, perhaps bizarrely, by Mindless Eating. This was my first experience hearing (not that people haven't said it...I mean that I hadn't HEARD it) that I was not damaged, flawed. What an interesting idea. I already suspected that some cravings were a signal - if I want nothing but a greasy cheeseburger followed by an entire bag of jelly beans, it usually Means Something Else. Its not just food - when I crave a tattoo, it usually means something else as well. The tools provided by this book are useful - will require practice, but just KNOWING about them is helpful. This book let me crawl into God's lap so he could stroke my hair, and I felt immensely whole and loved and adored - by me.

Sophie Kinsella is a widely known author so none or maybe only a few will disagree with me when I say that this book is absolutely AMAZING! Although the situation is a bit of a cliche since it includes an accident followed by having amnesia, I would still say that I really love this book. I like it because of the wittiness of the characters, it's light atmosphere and the impeccable timing with revealing one memory from another. The story focuses on a 28 year old woman named Lexi Smart who woke up in a hospital bed with not single memory of the past three years. Having her mind set up in 2004 she tries to live her life the way she thought she was living in 2007. She can't believe the transformations in her life. A few are.. * Snaggle tooth to perfect teeth * She's 2 sizes thinner * chocolate lover to having a low carb diet * new set of friends * previous Loser Dave boyfriend to a multimillionaire HOT husband * and from junior assistant to marketing executive.. a.k.a. THE BOSS of the department. The only thing that kept her mind in check was an architect who seem to know the Lexi in 2004 even though it's masked by Lexi in 2007. But as she struggles with this man, she can't seem to deny the thought of living the life of another girl and watching a wonderful romance but of 2 people that she doesn't know. Still having her mind in rewind, she scrambles to make her life as perfect as it seem. Discovering lately that all the glamour and success within 3 yrs have already been too fast to handle even before she had amnesia and that the life that she thought was perfect is not as perfect as it seems. P.S. Sunflowers here mean something great! read it to find out

Update August 8, 2012: Knocking down a star because this book is nowhere as good as some of my other four star loves. ************* To the reviewers that say the protagonist is dumb: you're right. But I still liked reading the book. My four stars are a reflection of the good feelings I had about it rather than how "objectively" good the book was. I just liked it :)

Narrator: Wil Wheaton (awesome) What a fun, fun, fun read. I was already hooked by the time I reached the first level. I highly recommend this book in audio form over the DT version. I can't think of a more perfect narrator than Wil Wheaton, using his best teenage voice. He reads with just the right amount of enthusiasm, frustration, anger, excitement & humor that makes the character come alive. The book - meaning the writing, the plot, the character interactions, the whole thing - seems to mirror the game. It starts slow and easy, and gets faster, more complex, with more and more levels as it goes. This was a real "couldn't put it down, or I guess I should say "couldn't stop listening". I intentionally held off on the last few chapters in order to stretch out the enjoyment of finding out how it all unfolded. I read a lot of complaints in the comments about the romance being kind of weak. I saw their friendship as a much bigger role than the actually romance. There were so many long sections of the book where it didn't even play a part. I felt that the romance wasn't really supposed to be much more than a sideline to the main story.
Komik ve dokunaklı bir şekilde üzücü.
