I'm sorta undecided on this series. I like the author's style- He is very witty. My problem is that the "Creator" in this series is a woman. I think that because it is fiction, I'm okay with it, but haven't let my kids start reading. I'll update after I finish out the week!

I love Marukami. His stories are always sexily boring. He always finds away to make the mundane incredibly exciting, but this was a little disappointing. I think this short novel summarized what can happen when unexpected people can change just a few short hours of your life. I was also really interested in the relationship and differences between Mari and her sister Eri. Despite the bitterness and unhappiness Mari feels about her own life compared to Eri's (this is what seemed most revealing to me as I pictured her alone reading a book at Denny's), she is open to the interest and perhaps love of strangers that she doesn't know. However, the somewhat randomness of the characters is missing for me more of a history placing each one in their so called after dark activities. It seems to me that Murakami is also obsessed with sleep and likes to blur/question the lines between dreaming and reality. Some of this I find fascinating some of it I find a bit boring. "This is my bed, these are my pajamas. That much is certain. But this is not my place. My body is numb all over. If I was asleep here it was for a very long time, and very deeply.
