This book was a little slow to read, but really well written (in my opinion). The characters were interesting enough to keep me wanting to know more about them and what happens to them in the book. The story is about a Scottish family, told primarily from the perspective of the dad and the eldest son. They are complex and different characters the story is told through their perspective of how they deal with the rest of the family and the things that happen within the family. The dad is a pretty steady guy but then does something totally out of character and likes it. The son is gay and lives in NYC. He's always really awkward around his family b/c of his choice to live in America and his orientation. The author gets you to delve into each of these characters to figure out what makes them tick. However, by the end of the book,I still felt like there as a lot about them I still didn't really know. Nevertheless, I'd recommend it.

I wish there were more writings by hadewijch of antwerp in this, but it covers a lot of ground... and the cover illustration ('christian allegory' by jan provost) is totally almost worth the price of the book alone.

Mystery bookstore owner Tricia Miles again finds a body--this time that of an author who just spoke at her bookstore--and again attracts the ire of the incompetent, hostile local sheriff. Many people wondered about Zoe Carter's books--she never showed any interest in fiction, research, or in fact in reading. How could she write five best-selling historical mysteries? Tricia suspects that the books' real author has struck Zoe down, but how can she locate an author--or a murderer--without a name, face or title? Her recent beau, local newspaper editor Russ, and her bossy older sister Angelica are among the people who help her with the case.

I am giving this book 3 stars because i HATE the ending soooooo much. I cant take it!! It was so good in the starting and the middle. It was engaging, entertaining, action-packed and funny. I was in love with the whole book and its charachters until...the sick "twist" came. Okay, i admit that the author has great story-telling skills. But really? the ending was just bullshit. ew, god no, disgusting. Maybe i am being impartial. I was sort of hoping there would be a happy ending. She did tried to make it sound normal in the epilogue though. But those who actually read the book will know it would never be okay. I NEED TO FIND THE SECOND BOOOK. NOW NOW NOW. By the way, in case your wondering: 1 star off for: the sick twist 1 star off for: the author kept discribing Jace's hair. It kinda gets old after the 99th time she does it.

I recall reading this book many years ago and it still remains as one of my favourite stories. I recently shared it with a Nursery class as I was teaching the children about The Butterfly Life Cycle. The children were ecstatic, as the book is full of rich colours. One of the added bonuses of this story is that it is very cross curricular; one could incorporate counting activities, sequencing in Literacy, Knowledge and Understanding of the world (KUW) life Cycles and fruits. I would recommend this book for EYFS and KS1; the illustrations in this book are dazzling. It is also a cross curricular book with infinite opportunities to theme in various activities. When I was working with Nursery children we made symmetrical butterflies and symmetrical patterns, we also explored with paint. Furthermore, we sequenced the story using role- play and even attempted to create A Butterfly Life Cycle display which was really fun as we explored with a range of materials. Again I would state this is a must read, it’s full of humour, it’s very witty. There are lots of opportunities for interaction when sharing the story with children as they can also have fun guessing what they think the Caterpillar would eat next. The added value of this book is that it is Educational, the children are essentially learning about The Life Cycle Of A Butterfly, in a very fun filled way. A must read!!!

** spoiler alert ** I was fascinated by the premise of this story - the fact these tapes existed and would then haunt 13 people, teens + 1 teacher, made me feel very anxious. I can't say I really enjoyed this story, because the subject was just so dark (kind of like the Hunger Games series), but yet, on the other hand, it was a good read. I think this is a book that I will think back upon in the future...

This is one of the best non-fiction books I have ever read. It's about a ship that sank in the mid-1800s off the coast of the Carolinas on its way back to New York from the California Gold Rush and the search to find it and retrieve the treasure. It sat there--almost 2 miles under water and about 200 miles off the coast--until the late 1980s. The author does a great job of interweaving the stories of the lives of the people on the ship and the sinking of the ship with the story of the scientist who plans the recovery and builds a machine that can go to that depth and still work. I'm really not doing it justice with this review. It was a fascinating read.
