Fire Me is a fairly pleasant read that had me chuckle at Anne and Sheila's schemings. I may never dare to do what they did, but I have to admit that I am sorely tempted to try it at work and see if it might work! ;D I kept reading onward to find out what schemes they'd attempt next, and I was surprised at how it ended for Anne (but totally happy for her!). I thought the romance was really downplayed, almost like an afterthought and not really a major part of the story. Which is fine because this was more about Anne trying to figure out that there is more to life than Mitch Burnham and his workplace. And that work gets a little more interesting when she uses her creative juices for evil! :} More of my review here

Loved this book. I learned things about our food system I did not know (or want to know). I am becoming more of a locavore and supporter of the local food chain as a result. And there is a canning recipe in here I really want to try.

** spoiler alert ** I was fascinated by the premise of this story - the fact these tapes existed and would then haunt 13 people, teens + 1 teacher, made me feel very anxious. I can't say I really enjoyed this story, because the subject was just so dark (kind of like the Hunger Games series), but yet, on the other hand, it was a good read. I think this is a book that I will think back upon in the future...

Для моего понимания - это настоящая трагедия разоряющейся помещицы, которой очень тяжело и больно потерять вишнёвый сад, у которой связано с этим садом прошлое: её воспоминания и переживания, радостные моменты жизни, прекрасный вид цветущих вишен и красивое пение птиц в саду... И предлагают ей за это - деньги, а также - уничтожить и распахать ту землю! Конечно нельзя сравнивать богатство душевное с материальным!

I really enjoyed this book. As with a lot of historical fiction, it is hard to know sometimes what is embellished, and what is accurate, but I was totally into this story. I am reading the second one and having a wonderful time with it. Some of the descriptive elements of the book were it was difficult to read but it was part of that time they liven in... I am sure glad that I didn't live during the French Revelution.

This is the third Anita Shreve book I've read, and they are among my favorite books every time. This tells the story of a woman escaping NYC and her abusive husband and heading to a sleepy Maine fishing town. While the story itself is intriguing, the medium in which it is told makes the book stellar. It is told in letters to a reporter writing a story for a magazine. Twenty years later, the reporter is giving the interview letters to the abused woman's daughter. The interview letters are coming from the victim in jail, so that is established at the very beginning; the reader can guess what ultimately happened, but the getting there is the best part.
