This was a somewhat entertaining novel, but is definitely a fantasy novel of it's time. There were things I found annoying. Moments where the main character was helpless in a way I did not understand (as though she were simply frozen and unable to do anything). But otherwise it was an ok somewhat cheesy fantasy read.

** spoiler alert ** I vacillated between rating this 3 stars or 5 stars. I REALLY liked the first 20 chapters. Stories with this level of depth and character development are rare on Nifty. Matt's vulnerability, his evolution, and strength were at most times--riveting. It was raw, grimy and full of extreme S&M. SCORE! :D *kinky chick dance* After chapter 21 or so I think I had my fill of Matt's naivete, friggin' stupidity, and abysmally low self-image, which I suspect Llawayllynn meant to communicate as devotion and deep submission. What was great about Indulgence for me was that I couldn't prevent myself from developing love/hate relationships with most of the characters. I just couldn't stop myself from balancing their loathsome qualities from what made them intriguing; except for Razor...just UGH! I would've been TOTALLY okay with him meeting a tragic, painful end. I agree with another reviewer who said it lacked elegance and so some scenes while hot, just weren't arousing. It's doubtful whether arousing women or elegance were goals of Jack's :P I also kind of hated that the ending was just too neatly and conveniently wrapped up. Still this is one of the BEST stories I've read on Nifty...and I've read widely *blush* It's also interesting to think about hardcore BDSM stories and compare them to more romanticized ones. GO READ IT. IT'S FREE!

inspired two entries, but neither really about the book. http://www.twotreatises.org/416 http://www.twotreatises.org/415 The book was good. It worried me at first, by starting out sounding like Vonnegut in that way that I used to love but then grew tired of. But it got better. It's actually a really good book, just loses points for me because it's centered around love, a topic sometimes, but more often NOT near to my heart. But some people will like it because of not in spite of the subject matter, so read away.

I always love a Dick Francies book. I have been enjoying him since high school. My grandpa had a horse at Long Acres and used to race and even though I don't know horses at all, these books are always interesting. They always have an interesting main character with quirks. This one was no exception!

Its the return of Awesomeness! lol I am definetly a fan now. And if I was a Seth fan before, I'm a Fanatic now. What a Great book. It has all the humour, mistery, romance and action, other books can only dream of having. Georgina and Seth are meant to be together...if you don't count the fact that they can't engage in any kind of physical encounters. This makes their relationship difficult, but not impossible. Before the find a balance, they're put throu some hardships and tests. Some they pass and some they("they" meaning Georgina in this one) fail misserably. I was mad at Georgina for the HUGE mistake she made, but at the same time I kinda understood her and felt sympathized with her. I guess Seth felt the same way, other wise he could not have been able to get past it. Some new characters are introduced. The most interesting one was Bastian, a Inccubus frieand of Georgy from way back in the day, who has a big job to do in the city. Georgina tries to help him and gets caught up in a very sticky sittuation. In the mean time. Georgina's friends are in danger, and guess who comes to the rescue? With a little tiny bit of help from our favorite Demon, Jerome, and Angel, Carter. Georgy comes out standing victorious form a very dangerous encounter with a...let's just say a little bit of Greek mythology is added to the whole mix. So in conclusion, awesome book. Georgina is real and easy to like and feel sympathy towards her. Her complications are exciting, mysterious and sometimes heart wrenching. Seth is the sweetest, most accomodating and understanding guy ever(without being boring!). And the books and stories are captivating and engaging from beggining to end. Without a doubt, Richelle Mead is one of my favorite writters.

I really do not believe this book lives up to all the hype and positive reviews. It was readable, but not memorable.

for those of you who read my blog, you'll remember that Blood Crimes by Dave Zeltserman, was in my opinion a bloody good read. So how will I take to this my second exposure to Zeltserman, have I got the Zeltserman bug? Caretaker tells the tale of Jack Durkin, who along with the previous eight generations of Durkins have protected the world from the all consuming threat of the Aukowie, ravenous plant creature that will destroy the world within days. That's if Durkin doesn't full fill his contractual duties, and Durkin takes these duties seriously oh so very seriously. In previous generations the townsfolk took the Caretaker seriously, and paid him handsomely for his services. However these days only a small handful of folk, still believe in his duties. Life for Durkin has become a struggle, a struggle to get by on his pittance of pay, a struggle to be taken seriously, and a struggle with his family. His wife doesn't take him seriously and is fed up with her peasants lifestyle, his two sons were born in the wrong order. Only the eldest can become a Caretaker, but he refuses to follow his destiny. Whereas the younger son would love to become the Caretaker, but the contract cannot be changed, it cannot be broken. Fed up with her life Durkin's wife seeks a way to make money out of Lorne Field and the Aukowie. So she turns to the flash young lawyer Minter, who plans to make the Durkin's, and himself millions by turning The Aukowie into a Disney style amusement attraction. That'll go without hitch won't it folks. that's all I'm going to reveal of the actual story. As with most things it's better if you find out for yourselves. The Caretaker, is one hell of a book, books like these don't come out often. Within the relatively short 235 pages, Zeltserman has weaved a tale that is moving, terrifying, funny and deep. This is a very different novel than that of Blood Crimes, where Blood Crimes was a action based noir thriller Caretaker is a thoughtful slow builder, that piles on the tension page after page. The story is told from two narratives Durkin, and his wife. Durkin fully believes that the Aukowie are real, he is completely and utterly dedicated to his job and the contract. So much so that he wants some boys, who did nothing more than throw some tomatoes at him, hanged in public. He believes that as the contract states that anyone who interferes with the duties of a caretaker should be hung, that by doing this the kids violated the contract. He even goes to the local sheriff to make him round up the boys. Durkin's wife, who like most of the towns folk doesn't believe in Durkin's job, and its through her parts of the novel that Zeltserman introduces doubt into the existence of the Aukowie. Has Durkin just fooled himself into believing they are real, is his devotion to his job that strong? Or are they just a figment of Dirkin's mind. If you think I'm going to tell you the truth, then think again. This book is being marketed as a horror book, which in my opinion is a misfortune, for this like The Thief of Broken Toys, transcends the horror genre. There has been talk about what is literary horror. I'll tell you it's this. This book is dense with themes, how far will a man go to defend his beliefs? How society treats those they no longer feel are useful. Zeltserman handles these themes with the skill and deftness of an author at the top of his game. This is a moving and haunting book that will stay with you long after you've turned the last page. Buy this book now, in fact buy two copies and give one to a friend, they'll be indebted to you.
