I really didn't find it as scandalous as everyone makes it out too be. The main character is fascinating in the sense that as you progress in the book his plights become quite comical.

Loved this book. Beautiful story, beautiful writing, beautiful execution of a book. While this novel would probably have taken me a day or less to read on a weekend, I took it with me for company on my train commutes, to brighten my day. Reading it was like drinking a cup of tea or coffee that you want to enjoy for as long as possible. Perfectly lovely, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a gorgeous read. Additional about the film: while I definitely preferred the book, I thought that the movie captured the feeling of the novel quite well, despite making it a tad too romantic for my taste. It was excellently cast, and I would watch it again, despite its differences from the book.

This was a fascinating blend of biography, science, ethics, and social history. The cells of a cervical cancer patient, Henrietta Lacks, have been used since the 1950s in scientific research, leading to the testing of the polio vaccine, AIDS research, cancer research, gene mapping, among other advances. However, Henrietta's family had no idea her cells were being sold to researchers until they were in labs around the world.

This book was scary to my opinion because the dead came to life and derek's brother is actually someone else.

This is an excellent single-volume introduction to early Christian history. My only gripe is that it could be longer - Chadwick is an excellent writer as well as an engaging history, and I'd like to read a general work of his that goes into greater detail.

This novel painted incredibly poignant images for me; Brooks constructs ideas of war, love, persistence, marriage, and death more meaningfully in single sentences than other authors do in entire novels. Only caveat is the graphic war scenes near the beginning. The narration, however, is worth the read. Outstanding novel.

More dramatic Jane Austen.

I think it would be interesting to survey people to see which of the Damar books they prefer; I wonder if doesn't strongly correlate with which order you read them, the first always being the most preferred. The books are so strongly written than each story, and each heroine, has her own very distinct voice. Each is easily a very good standalone novel. However, they become even stronger as a pair. I read The Blue Sword first, and so the forested Damar of Aerin's time is a little odd, and the outright magic in most of the book lacks the creeping subtlety of that in The Blue Sword. That being said, Aerin is still a ton of fun to hang out with, and if some events are a tad less explicable in this book, that's just fine. Any Damar book is a book worth reading. I hope we get another one (starring a protagonist with long black hair who at some point sits next to some very tall white walls?)

I liked it so much -- but it took me forever to read because nothing really happened. I mean, things happened but the story was just really small and not what I expected after the giant race up and down a mountain that was Cloud Atlas. i know it's totally unfair to judge this in relation to that book (masterpiece!) but I'm doing it anyway.
