Struggled some with this but liked it enough that I'll read another Nesbo sometime.

A surprising YA mystery-romance: surprising because except for the mention of cellphones and Dockers, it could have been written in 1965. And maybe they actually had Dockers in 1965, I don't know. Jen's dad, long divorced from Jen's missing mother Ellen, insists that Jen spend a summer working at the resort hotel run by his mother, really to keep an eye on Jen's Grandma Kay. SPOILER AHEAD: Dad is convinced his mother is losing it because she has the wacky notion that Ellen is not missing but dead. Jen tries to get to the bottom of this mystery. Seemingly by coincidence, Grandma Kay is sponsoring a mystery weekend at the resort, but in reality the situation in the fake mystery parallels the situation at the period during which Ellen went missing. Jen gets to practice her acting talents and her Nancy Drew abilities simultaneously. As expected, there's an old boyfriend, Kent, and an old friend, Mark, who's almost like a relative, and a teenage seductress, Bri, as part of the mix. The burgeoning relationship between Jen and Mark is G-rated and kind of sweet, but Kent and Bri are never sufficiently developed to seem a threat on either end. I figured out the solution to the mystery pretty early on, but the motive was a bit of a surprise to me. The best part of the book was the lovely hotel in its small-town Missouri setting. All in all, a pleasant, old-fashioned cozy adventure without much substance.

this is the first book I have read by this author. I see great imagination, and she describes things enough so the reader can imagine but not so much that it becomes boring. I will definatly read more books by Martha Wells

David Sedaris shows his wit and power of observation in the first essay in the book, where he recalls his time as a Macy's elf. It is so awesome that it eclipses the remainder of the pieces in the book, some of which are so dark as to be only marginally funny.

I waffled back and forth between two stars (it was OK) and three stars (I liked it) and finally settled on two. I didn't dislike the book, but never really enjoyed it. It was hard for me to really like Elizabeth. She seemed a bit selfish and self-absorbed on her journey of self discovery. I felt like she was more interested in finding stories to sell a book rather than finding herself.
If you want to know what fart-bird, butt-pillow, or earth thunder mean, read this book.

One of the few books I finished and immediately wanted to reread. Funny, moving, and extremely well-written.

I first learned of this book when I saw the author plug on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. It seemed interesting and very similar to a book that I read a while back called Physics for Future Presidents. For that reason, I decided to read it and, to say the least, I found it to be quite informative. The book basically talks about the technological advancements that are being made in the battle field. One such example of this would be the Predator drones. It used to be that in order to get information or an overview of the battle, you would have to take a plane up into the sky, fly over the field, take pictures of the field and go back. Mind you, all this done whilst being shot at by flak. Now, we can take pictures, do recon and even take out targets with unmanned aerial vehicles and, here's the kicker, those unmanned aerial vehicles are being piloted by people sitting in an air conditioned room in the Las Vegas. This book really advanced my knowledge on the advancements in war. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys science or electronics because the book really explains a lot about it.

This memoir will make you both laugh and cry...raising three daughters with autism is an unlucky break for anyone, but Kim Stagliano does it with empathy and grace and manages to really humanize autism for those who may not yet be dealing with it. At the same time, she gives you a lot of really important info on what is most likely causing this epidemic and if you are not already familiar with the subject, I hope it's a real eye opener. This is an important book, not just about autism, but about family, empathy, the dangers of not educating yourself before giving dangerous vaccines to your children and also about the power of community and self reliance. Great book! This country needs more women like Kim Stagliano fighting for our children.

Hoşuma gitti, ama yazılı gerçek olmayanların çoğunu bilmek zordu. Harika bir roman olurdu.
