I have had a good streak of books lately...but this one was the BEST. I LOVED this book so much...couldn't put it down. The ending set up the second book perfectly and I can't wait till it comes out!

As Reilly himself puts it, he doesn't write about sports. He writes about people involved with sports. This collection of his columns has everything from his trademarked snarky pieces (boy, does he not like Barry Bonds and other steroid-taking athletes) to some of the most inspiring stories about people (usually kids) overcoming incredible odds (the boy with cerebral palsy who runs cross country track, the couple who survived the tsunami because they were doing an underwater dive at the time, and the high school football coach who wanted the mentally challenged boy on the other team to get a touchdown more than he wanted a shut-out versus the opposition...these are only a handful of the stories. Trust me, you'll have tears in your eyes!

This book started out slow. Basically u read this book if you have nothing else to do--sounds harsh? I did give it 3 stars, I know, but it does throw a little curve at the end that was nice and makes it worthwhile. It is a fairly easy read I got it done in a few days.

Read this when I was pregnant with my 1st child. I went home excited knowing a little boy was on his way into my life. I hold a special place in my heart for these books..

Not as good as "The End of the Affair", but captivating.

I did stay up late two nights in a row to finish the book, and as with all of Jodi Picoult's books, it was a controversial topic, well-written, pitted friends and family against each other, and kept me interested. I didn't give the book a higher rating because the plot has become formulaic now for me - I predicted how it would end and I was right, so that took away some of the excitement.

Ahhhh -- escapist reading --- just what I needed. At the library the other day, I walked down the romance aisles twice, looking for a fat book (I'm a fast reader) .. and this is the only one that called to me - and it wasn't fat! I didn't realize I was reading the last book of a series, however the book held it's own. It was light, sexy, romantic, everything I wanted from a romance novel.

I loved this book! It was so easy to get lost in & ended way too soon. Donald Hall is a magnificent writer!!

This novel is basically about a young man who goes to war. Written by an author who had never experienced war but believed he could write a better war novel than was currently available. If history is any indication - he did as the book is a classic (which is why I read it). I enjoyed this tale! I would definately recommend it. I don't want to talk too much about what our protagonist goes through so will keep this review very brief. The writing style was pretty fluid and the story was very easy to read. However, keep in mind I'm not reading these books with a critical eye instead I'm just trying to enjoy the story that is being told. I would say Crane did some deep soul searching to get a grip on how his character should handle his first, and subsequent, encounters with actual battle. However, at the same time it seems clear, based on some of the events in the book, that he had no real idea of what life as a solider is like. For a guy who had never seen war though he did a great job.

It's actually kind of amazing that Oscar Wilde wrote this. Imagine that, a writer known for plays that trumpet aestheticism writing a profoundly didactic novel. Unexpected as it is, The Picture of Dorian Gray is an impeccably written and extremely effective novel. Some of Wilde's best-known witticisms (like, "The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.") come from this book, and it's jarring to see them coming from the mouths of highly dubious characters like Lord Wotton, and even the slowly corrupting Dorian Gray himself. The painting as a reflection of Gray's soul is a very effective metaphor, and an image that likely to stay with you long after you have read this masterwork.
