Despite my initial reservations about this book, yes, I watched Titanic, and how long it took me to read this book because of my fear of the ending, I really loved this book. It has the same draw that her Evernight series does, though I admit the first Evernight book is in a category all to itself. It has a great supernatural draw, heart wrenching historical elements, drama and a heart pounding (yes, I actually used that phrase) romance. I loved the characters and how even the supporting characters had their own problems and dramas. The level of the development that these supporting characters have makes this book even more heart wrenching for me, especially when they are going through their own heartbreak at the same time as the main character. Another thing I liked about this book was that they were trapped on a ship in the middle of the ocean. No matter what drama and dangers they managed to get into on the ship they couldn't escape from it. They were stuck on the ship with nowhere to hide and nowhere to run. And yes, as always, how can I go without mentioning the main guy? Alec, for me, was one of the best characters in the book, if only because the male love interest always is my favourite. He has all his own problems, heartbreaks and troubled history, but even through it all he manages to fall in love with a servant girl, recognising all the beauty she has both inside and out. He protects her, from both himself and the outside world and, in the end, puts her safety above his own. But I have to say, the best part about this book was that it had a happy ending. I love when a book has an ending that makes me happy, leaving me with a nice review to write. Especially when I was crying through chapters not moments before, and then laughing and swooning before that. So, overall response: Five stars. Characters: Five stars. Cover: Four stars (The shiny bit blinds me). Plot: Five stars (I love the weave of romance and drama). I hope this convinces others who are hesitating to read this book. It really is very good.

For some reason this book wasn't really what I was expecting. The story is about two British kids Jem and Spider who get into lots of trouble. Jem has a "gift". When she looks into anyone's eyes she sees a number, the date they will die. This torments her. She sees the date that Spider will die. But does not want to tell him. The two of them are at the Eye ferris wheel the day of a terrorist attack. And the book tells us the story of what happens to Jem and Spider afterwards. There are some interesting characters. I liked Jem, but she was not the typical YA heroine. She was very rough around the edges, trusting nobody. But I didn't love her. Same with Spider. Liked him okay. But he was much more troubled that I am used to in YA. Favorite character: Val (Spider's grandma). She senses that there is something special about Jem. I wish we got to explore this relationship more. Not sure I liked the end (before the last chapter). Then the last chapter goes forward 5 years. When I started reading this chapter I was not sure how I felt. But the last few lines were interesting. And I think they lead quite well into the next book. I loved the premise of this book (girl who can see date people will die). It just was not exactly what I was expecting.

Well-written, neatly drawn. But it never sucked me in as much as it did others.

As I was growing up, I had always heard about Wuthering Heights as one of the great romances of all time. And then I read it. Wuthering Heights is not a romantic book (as in, "a beautiful love story that girls sigh over and want their boyfriends to re-create"), it is a Romantic book (as in, "an 18th century Western Europe artistic, literary and intellectual movement that stressed strong emotion as a source of aesthetic experience, placing new emphasis on such emotions as trepidation, horror, and the awe experienced in confronting the sublimity of nature" - thanks Wikipedia!). Wuthering Heights is a classic, but it's about obsession and the terrible things people do to each other. Read it with that in mind, and it's actually kind of amazing. But then again, I heart the Brontes.

This book was just average for me. A boy goes on fantastic journey through the zoo where things that at first seem good or bad turn out the other way. Lots of animals.

Okay, I must admit that I haven't actually "read" this book. I listened to it on tape. I liked it. David Sedaris has a hilarious way of looking at his own past and describing ordinary events with loving humor. The highlight for me, and for others that I have talked with, is the chapter entitled, "Six to Eight Reindeer." The reason I only give it three stars though, is that sometimes it dragged and there were a couple of slightly uncomfortable homosexually scenes--nothing really explicit, just uncomfortable.

This is a good book to use to FIND a book (fiction and non-fiction) on a location that you'd like to read about. I likey! I'm only on page 9. It's one to buy and use a highlighter to mark the books you're interested in. Not a good e-reader kinda book. (in my humble opinion...)

** spoiler alert ** I don't know how I found this book. It was ok until the end. Then it just sortof explained everything in three pages. I don't know how common this is in detective stories but I didn't like it. The Tourette's was great. Overall the story wasn't very good. I think I might just not like this genre. Though I did find myself going for this book before my nonfiction. I think that might just be because nonfiction is easier than fiction. Quotes: "Somebody knew what they were doing and where they were going, and that somebody wasn't even remotely us." "Consensual reality is both fragile and elastic, and it heals like the skin of a bubble." "I was dredging up Minna's usages on any excuse now, as though I could build a golem of his language, then bring it to life, a figure of vengeance to search out the killer or killers." "That was me, Lionel, hurtling through those subterranean tunnels, visiting the labyrinth that runs under the world, which everyone pretends is not there. You can go back to pretending if you like...I'll pretend I never rode that train, but I did."

Felsefe, sanat, romantizm ... Bayıldım.
