I have read this book about a dozen or so times and each time was just like the time before. Well, to be truthful, the last time I read it, I gained considerable insight into what makes the book a fable of great magnitude. It is a construct of life in 18th and 19th century America, with bits and pieces plagiarized from the Bible and other books; plus a story line that borders on being the precursor to Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Huge battles with enormous numbers of people killed; miracles; a visit to somewhere in the Americas by none other than Jesus Christ himself after his crucifixion. The book is fiction at its worst.

Follow the maladjusted detective, Harry Hole, possibly at the end of his career, through the streets of Oslo in this search for a serial killer. I thoroughly enjoyed this, the depth of Harry's character was intriguing, and the comparison with his adversarial colleague Tom Waaler strings the reader along throughout. As a frequent business visitor to Oslo, I could literally feel the bitter cold of this city as I read, even through the English translation from the original Norwegian. Very much looking forward to the sequel, The Redbreast.

Jacob; what to say about him? A young man with Asperger's Syndrome; beloved and irritatingly predictable. I learned so much about this condition by reading Picoult's book; I loved Jacob and wanted the whole world to understand what made him tick.

Normally romance wouldn't be my favorite genre, but this wasn't bad. The characters were interesting, particularly Jamie. Plus you can pick up some interesting Scottish history.

Patterned after the Night Before Christmas...good trade book for Valentine's Day activites and crafts
I listened to this book on CD thanks to my father-in-law gifting it to me while he was serving as mission president. Sheri Dew is fun to listen to and her farm town stories relate easily with my growing up memories. You learn a lot about yourself and others simply by the place you're raised. I enjoyed her comment about "many are called but few are chosen and we do the choosing." I thought that was interesting and have pondered on it a lot since listening to the book. It is up to me to choose whether I will follow Him, my Savior, and magnify each of my callings. All around it's another LDS "feel good" book that reminds you of the good you're doing and the good you should be doing. :)

When I first began reading this, I felt it was way too sarcastically written; Klosterman sounded a bit too bitter for my liking. But I recently saw him speak at Rutgers University, and found him incredibly down to earth and more blunt and realistic than sardonic. So, I reread the book in that mindset, and had a whole new view of it.
