I think the bleakness of the world of the Final Empire initially turned me off. It is all ash and soot and mists and bleak and blah. This is intentional by the author and I just wasn't ready for it. As such, it took me awhile to warm to it, even listening via auido. Once I did figure out what was going on, I began to like it. And then REALLY enjoy it. And finally, I loved it. It's a story of a bunch of people, led by Kelsier, who plan on overthrowing the Final Empire and the immortal Lord Ruler. The build up of the story is done masterfully - I see that now - and many characters are fleshed out as the story builds towards it's climax. One character in particular, Vin, sees a considerable growth in her character and she is easily a a favorate character now. Once again, Brandon Sanderson has created a new magic system that is believable and awe inspiring. (Read Warbreaker and Way of Kings for other examples of his magic system creation) What I really love about it is that characters truely adept at using his magic do things I didn't see coming and that adds a very high coolness factor to it all. The ending was a bit of surprise, making me wonder what is next for the characters. No spoilers! It will prompt me to read the next one soon however!

This was a fairly cute book. I tend to find his books a bit on the sappy side, but sometimes they're sappy in a good way. I think this one went a little too far on the sappiness though.

I usually don't cry while reading a book, but this one made me. From a mother's standpoint , this book was so touching. I don't want to say to much about the book except that it is definetly worth reading!

The Tompkin siblings are traveling on an adventure. Their home was sold and they're on their way to live with their Uncle. Strangely enough before their reach their Uncle's home, they discover the city of Falling Bird. Mom told them to stay together, but it's difficult in Falling Bird and even worse to try to find answers. Are you familiar with Choldenko's Al Capone series? If not, I would highly recommend those two books. If you are familiar with Al Capone, don't jump into this novel with the same mindset of historical fiction. No Passengers Beyond This Point is a modern tale of loss, questions, tragedy, answers, and family. A very good friend recommended this book, but warned me...this is not like her other stories. Too true, friend. I was intrigued by the layout of the plot. As an adult, I guessed the answer too soon. I believe the wonder of Falling Bird will amaze elementary students when they listen or read this story. No Passengers Beyond This Point was read by three named artist - Becca Battoe, Jesse Berstein and Tara Sands - one for each child. I recongized Jesse's voice at the actor for Percy Jackson. It was very difficult not to picture Percy Jackson. The gals were all right. Becca shared a very amused and annoyed elder sibling. Tara shared an enthusiastic and inquisitive young child. All in all - they pegged the roles well. Using multiple voices worked well with the books as each chapter featured a different sibling. I would like to see this style demonstrated in other novels.

This book is really fucking good. Most of my reviews are skewing toward that sentence right there, but for real, it's true.
