I think you really have to like Jane Austen to even begin to enjoy this book since it's about someone obsessed with Mr. Darcy. And if you have no idea who that is, don't even start this book. It was a fun read and had a satisfying ending.

I listened to this one on CD. The same reader performs as does her Stephanie Plum series. I just needed some "ear candy" and neither Janet nor the reader disappointed.

Interesting book written by a woman but from the point of view of the main male character. Decidedly flawed, devious and dark, Nicholas Van Tassel meets a woman by chance and then sets out to "have" her for his wife. Off to a less than spectacular start, their marriage suffers from the lack of "partnership" as the love between them is not mutual. In fact, it often seems that Van Tassle's real true love is himself. I liked the unusual aspect that the person's mind you are inside through the course of this book is the one who is dysfunctional and thoroughly selfish. I did feel the book started out a bit slow and had a few stretches in the middle that I seemed to be plodding through, but overall an entertaining few hours spent.

Ueda Miwa has a penchant for teen melodrama. Her Peach Girl series goes above and beyond the norm, so I was expecting the same with Papillon. It certainly has melodrama, but it seems to lack that certain rubbernecking quality that its predecessor had. I found myself cringing rather than rolling my eyes but continuing to devour. While Ageha feels like a unique enough character, Hana and the others feel like rehashes of Peach Girl characters but without their spark. It's an enjoyable enough read, but it's really not nearly as engaging as the overly dramatic but ever entertaining Peach Girl.

Reading some of Steinbeck's essays helped me appreciate his fiction more. If you like to write nonfiction, this may be a good study.

Pretty sweet book. Set in russian is a good winter read. The main character, Rodion, is so dark and troubled, that somehow he is likable. Not usually my favorite genre and also a long read. I would recommend it is you want some angst and some good old crazy russian drama.

At first, I liked this. I thought the characters were interesting and the plot was quite an interesting and slightly different idea. However, by about half way through I knew who the culprit was and began to piece everything together. In many ways this spoiled the second half of the book as it was evident there was still supposed to be tension at this point, but this was gone for me. For this reason, I didn't fully enjoy this novel. Saying that, I think the character of Jack Caffrey is really interesting and leaves lots to the readers imagination. What's his past and demons? These are things that kept me interested in this book in the hope they would be answered. Alas, they weren't in this instance, but it would certainly make me want to read more of Mo Hayder's books in the hope of finding out. Despite the predictable plot, I would read more of Hayder's books as I did like the characters, the overall premise and think that further novels wouldn't be so predictable.

learning all the time from this
Beautifully, beautifully written, but Least Heat Moon's negativity started to get to me after a while. Also, he hated Oregon. What's wrong with him?
