THE book on US foreign policy since World War II (aka White War II). Blum covers 50+ US covert and overt interventions. Extremely well researched and footnoted. Will shatter many of the myths that Americans believe, even those who "just don't believe" the establishment side. Will provide the reader with the factual basis for demonstrating that the US is not in the business of overthrowing democracy. Some tidbits from the book: Did you know that the Bush Administration knew that Saddam Hussein was planning on invading Kuwait although they publicly claimed shock? Did you know which story was told in the US Congress that garnered the support of US politicians in taking action? And that story had a PR firm behind it? If you don't read this book, you CANNOT claim to know US foreign policy. That is unless you have researched US govt documents and the US press for the past 50+ years. Blum saves you that effort. I know that the story is not true. However, I liked it being fast-paced and interesting page per page. The movie was disappointing but the book was something that was scary to read at first. Scary because if your faith is not strong then you could be swayed and the exciting narrative of Dan Brown could put doubts to what you believe.

(Disclaimer: I have a weakness for Robin McKinley...anything she writes, I like) Why not twist the story of Sleeping Beauty around and spin the ending? I liked her changes to the story better than her end of Rose Daughter (sorry, I liked Beauty's ending better). I love her ability to create a fanticiful world that is unique with rules of its own. Each book is so different from the others. I can't wait for Megan to be old enough to enjoy this book with me!

A critical analysis of Senator Edward Kennedy's political career, leading up to and following the death of Mary Jo Kopechne on Chappaquiddick Island in 1969. From the very introduction of this book, it is obvious that Sherrill is not an admirer of the Kennedy clan. Sherrill details the activities of politicians and local officials of Dukes County, Massachusetts, following the accident in which Kopechne died in Kennedy's car following a party on the island. From the facts presented, it would appear that the local law enforcement officials acted neglegently in investigating the discrepencies between available evidence and accounts told by Kennedy and his fellow partiers. Of particular interest to me was the fact that my vague recollection of the details seems not to have been because of my memory failure over time, but more because there were so many questions that were never resolved at that time. This book came to my reading list via the bibliography of The Kennedys by Joseph Alsop and Robert Kintner.

I really liked this one and I did not see the ending coming at all. I expected Eve and Roarke to fight a lot more than they did considering all that they went through. I found Eve kind of annoying in parts, which is strange, but by the end I was enjoying her character again.
