** spoiler alert ** I have to say that I really enjoyed the beginning of the last book in the Twilight Saga. Seeing Edward and Bella together, finally getting married and agreeing that she would become a vampire. Ever since the first book, that had been a debate amongst this extraordinary couple. But, the joyous first few chapters were the lull before the storm. I had been wary of the moral undertone that appeared in Eclipse, where Edward wanted to preserve Bella's soul by getting married before making her a vampire and sleeping with her. My worries were correct because Meyer took it even further when Bella became pregnant on her honeymoon and she refuses to give up the child, even though it is killing her. It really irritated me that these strong religious undertones were seeping through the love story I fell in love with in the first novel. But, I kept reading... Things got worse. Then, I had to read, in excruciating detail, about how awful the pregnancy was for Bella. How Jacob planned on killing Edward for doing all of this to Bella and so on. But him planning to murder the child only to imprint her was way over the top. Even though the story seemed a bit too wrapped up in a nice bow, I gave Meyer the benefit of the doubt. I knew it would turn around. And, it did. Finally having Bella become a vampire was amazing! The details she saw; the differences in her life; her self control were what I had been waiting for. Meyer did a fantastic job of portraying Bella in her new, strong body. Becoming a vampire was everything she had hoped for and more. She and Edward had a child and a loving extended family, which also included her Jacob. From that point on, I was hooked once again. It was wonderful to see Bella's role transform from helpless to powerful protector. She was still willing to sacrifice herself to save her loved ones, but now she had power. Meyer was able to completely change my opinion of the book. I would definitely look forward to another novel, but there was the final “The End” on the last page, so I doubt that a continuation is coming. Thank you Stephenie Meyer, for making an unlikely pair of complex characters capture my heart and imagination.

As my own views on fertility, contraception/conception, pregnancy, birth, etc. tend to veer a little off the mainstream path, I began reading this book with the expectation that I would find half the info inside disagreeable. I was pleasantly surprised to see a balanced, generally non-biased coverage of pretty much any topic imaginable pertaining to "expecting." Even the writing style is appealing, with witty phrases and humor frequenly inserted. (Hence the reason I whizzed through the entire volume in just a matter of days). I would recommend it to anyone who is considering pregnancy within the next couple years, as some of the preconception info is right on target and could be helpful in the planning stages.

This book was pretty slow going through no fault of its own, I just haven't had much time to read. I'm so glad I stuck with it, it was worth. A bit heavy handed and preachy occasionally, but i would expect no less from Barbara Kingsolver. Loved the way the three stories intertwined. I absolutely did not love the last chapter, and would give the book 3.5 stars over all because of it. Worth the read nonetheless.

Fantastic! A writer in post-WWII London is drawn in to the story of the German Occupation on Guernsey (one of the Channel Islands), then visits the island and falls in love with its residents and setting while writing about what happened there during the war. The book has it all: humor, emotion (have a tissue ready), great characters and a surprisingly romantic love story.

Kind of like the surrogate, for me, of a sequel to Jane Eyre. Apparently the critics don't like it as much, but I read for plot, and was quite satisfied

This book was cute but nothing to write home about. Falls into the random "chick" book category.

I thought this would be too dark for me to stick with, but it's fascinating, narrowing the focus to a minimized world, between a man and his son, in a devastated landscape. It's written almost totally in the moment, and because of that, it flies by. For weeks since reading it, I find that a deadened gray bush or tree always catches my eye. "The Road" it takes you into a completely different world and makes you appreciate the vibrant natural world all around us.

The movie that just came out is based on this novel by P.D. James, though I haven't seen it yet. The book is fascinating, it's a dystopia--but not really. It's how the world would react if everyone in the entire world became sterile in 1995. So that means that the last generation of the entire human race was born in 1995. The book chronicles the dying days of the human race, and how people live their lives knowing that once everyone dies in about 70 years, the earth will revert to a natural state without humans. I've often wondered about this too, what UGA's campus will look like in the distant future, ruins perhaps, without humans around. Thought provoking. [Edit]--While the concept was awesome, the ending was a horrible, horrible cop out. Maybe folks should just see the movie.
