Paulo Coelho is without a doubt a gifted writer. In The Zahir, I simply could not get past his blatant spiritual "in your face" overtones, even though from what I've read about him, we'd probably agree on several things in regards to spirituality. I give it a "meh".

I only read this book because someone gave it to me.... I shouldn't have bothered. The main characters is so self-absorbed, spoiled and superficial that I really didn't like her. It's hard to enjoy a book when you have no sympathy for the apparent "victim" in the story. I'm not sure if the author thought she was going for a "modern woman" type character... but if that's a modern woman we're in serious trouble.

I thought this book was pretty good because it gave a picture of the fashion world, which I really had no idea about. I got a little tired of it in the end, but overall I thought it was entertaining. I really liked some of the characters:)

This book was awesome! I question a few points/claims Shlain makes, but not to the point of dismissing his proposition... Most thought provoking up the thrilling end! Highly recommended for anyone interested in history, media, art, or culture. How's that for broad?
