I love every one of these books. I guess I'm just sappy like that. I love to read a happy ending, it cheers me up. This one was about Kade and Alexandra in Alaska. I really enjoyed it. I couldn't put it down and read it in two nights. That's really fast for me!

I usually adore a book if it succeeds in making me cry. The Book Thief is one of those books that ensures you spend the whole night weeping into the pages. I’ve read the book about four times since I picked it up when I was thirteen years old and it’s one of the most special books I’ve found. There’s no one explanation as to what the book is about. It’s narrated by Death, and it’s about a young girl called Liesel who lives with her foster parents in Germany during the war. That’s the briefest of the brief outlines of the book. It’s about Liesel and her relationships with poor, starving Germans on her street, her foster parents, the Jew her family hides in the basement, but most of all, it’s about her love for books. I can hardly explain what it’s about so I urge you to go pick it up as soon as you can. It’s magical, really. It’s going to leave you as a melted puddle of goo. It hurt my heart to read it because the novel was so beautifully written and the characters so well-woven. I think it’s an important book for people of all age to read because it’s all about… being human, and about how war can bring out the worst- and the best- in people. It’s about love, friendship, acceptance, alienation, books, family, forgiveness, secrets, promises. I could go on and on but that wouldn’t do the book any justice. It’s a flawless book to me.

Some things have changed in 250 years but not the way rednecks w/ a little money drink and cuss. Squire Western doesn't have an F150 Eddie Bauer edition but he would if he lived in Cheatham county today. The attractive characters here are flat and uninteresting, but drunks, tarts, swindlers, and charlatans are well-drawn and tremendously familiar to American Southerners. The first 400 pages were really funny.

It's been a while since I read the first novel and I was happy to learn that the library was going to buy the second book. It took me a while to remember what happened in the first book, and the relationships within Rue's circle of friends. This is a decent book, and it is quite dark, which seems to fit Naifeh's illustrative style. Though sometimes it turned me off, or made it hard for me to recognize some characters. So, yes, a decent book, one I'm glad to have borrowed instead of bought. Also, it was a quick read, so I didn't feel a loss of time or regret over the time spent reading it, like I do with some other horrid books or movies I watched.
