*sigh* I don't really know where to start except that I love Mercy Thompson. Right now I'm leaving it at that because I have to process this book some more. Let's just say that we meet a lot of new characters and they are very....interesting. I did miss all the old ones though, but it was to be expected with all the changes and events going on in Mercy's life. I'm hoping in the next book she sticks closer to home and we get to see a lot more of Stefan and Warren. I also hope we get some more Sam too because he wasn't in this book at all. But, that would be my only real complaint is that I missed Warren and Stefan. We get to see a lot of Adam and that I thoroughly enjoyed *wink wink*

It's like something a kindergartener would read. Too simple.

This guy is a damned genius! This book (as well as the rest of the series)is a weird science fiction/dick lit hybrid with fictional literary figures as main characters. I'm not a fan of science fiction or detective fiction, but somehow those elements to the Eyre Affair are neutralized by the all-out suspension of disbelief that Fforde forces the reader to embrace right off the bat. Anyway, this book is F-U-N fun, and I am in awe of Jasper Fforde's wordsmithery.

Reading this a second time after first reading it in 2007 was still enjoyable. What I appreciated the second go wasn't just the story, but McCarthy's styling. I noticed it before, sure, and it was one of the things I liked then, but this go held a real appreciation for skill. The lack of names while still keeping characters straight is just amazing. With so many "he's" all over the page, it'd certainly be easy to become lost. While I read it it, I kept thinking about comments I've had about my own work where people want so much information on why things work they way they do. Did I have questions about McCarthy's world? Sure. I'd love to know what caused the situation the man and the boy found themselves in, but, for me, it wasn't vital. The not knowing struck me as feeling very much like the boy might have. Simply put into a world where it was how things were. Though narrated by the man, it was obvious he didn't and perhaps couldn't dwell on what had been. Also, I think it would've turned the story maudlin. While it's depressing, surely, it's not slogging through the past particularly. It deals with the now. Always, it's great to read something more than once and like it just as much.

When I first read the summary of this book I didn't really have much of an expectation with this book, making it exceed expectations. I loved this book. It was a very easy read and we were quickly accustomed to this new world that Rhine lives in. Despite being an easy read, it was enthralling captures your attention, making you want to read then rest of the book so you can find out how she ends up acting towards Linden and her sister wives.. It was a little predictable on what would happen between Rhine and Gabriel, from the very start when we're first introduced to him, I thought that she'd get together with Gabriel. I can't believe how much of a monster Vaughn is! I was shocked at how terrible he is that it made me want to cry (I didn't cry though). In the second book I want to know what happens to Cecily and Linden and if Linden finds out the truth about what his father has been doing. I also wonder if Vaughn will go searching for Rhine and Gabriel, and if he does find them, what will he do with them. Like how will be get them into the house without Linden, Cecily or any of the staff seeing who were friends with them if he punishes them by testing on them straight. If this happens then I think that Vaughn will find them after a month or so after she's settled back at her home with her brother and Gabriel.

I've had this near my bed for months now. I read it all the goddamn time, especially the first bit, which is a collection of a number of the Pali texts glommed together to give a sensible presentation of the historical Buddha's actual teachings. The title irks me to no end, though.
