This is a great book written by my colleague, Dion Jordan! It's a great motivator for setting goals and going after what you really want.

I love historical fiction. To take a real event, and "fill in the gaps" to make a story come alive is pure talent. Widow of the South tells the mostly true story of Carrie McGavock, a Tennessee housewife whose home is turned into a field hospital after the Battle of Franklin is waged in her town. She is a slightly morbid person from the loss of two children, but seems to find her place in life taking care of the injured soldiers. When the war was over she and her husband retrieved the fallen soldiers, who had been given a hasty and shallow burial in a field, and reburied them on their property. She kept meticulous records of the men buried there, and took care of their graves for the rest of her life. The best part is that for the most part, it’s true! You can go to Carnton Plantation walk among the graves, through her house which is still blood stained, and even see her book, written in her own hand, detailing the lives and deaths of every soldier she tended to until her death. There is a side story of one particular solider she nurses and begins to fall in love with which will appease those who aren’t as interested in history, but I felt that the best part of this story were the historical aspects.

This was a book club book, and was a different book than what I am used to. It was a little slow, but happy and uplifting. A father becomes a stay-at-home dad and realizes how difficult and amazing being at home can be. It depicts this journey and what he learns about himself and his kids.

This was entertaining, but I read Salmon Rushdie's Enchantress of Florence around the same time and it was so much better that my opinion of this one was diminished.
A beautiful story, i could not put it down.
