What a fun book. I absolutely loved it. The story is full of mystery, monsters, romance, humor, and even a little action. The story takes place in London during the rule of Queen Victoria. With a little bit of spice added to the era, London is aware of all things supernatural. Werewolves, vampires, and ghosts oh my! To keep the supernatural in line there are agencies set up to watch the city. One more thing, Alexia Tarabotti is a preternatural, the supernatural cannot touch her. On the night of a party that Alexia is attending she is attacked by an aware vampire who isn’t aware his strength and his teeth will not work on her. Of course this is not the crime, the crime is that he attacked at all. Now Alexia will join forces with a hot werewolf in the investigation. Alexia, Lord Maccon, and many more unique characters fill this book. Alexia is an awesome heroine. She is smart, eccentric, and fearless. I have not enjoyed a heroine this much in a very long time. Lord Maccon is hot, sarcastic, and lovable. The banter between these too is possibly one of the most entertaining banters I have ever read. We add this to a flamboyant vampire, a clueless best friend, and a furry second in command and you get an award winning cast that will keep you laughing out loud from start to finish. I have a very strong feeling this will be one of my favorite series.

If I remember right, this was the first book Puzo ever wrote. From that standpoint, it's different than most of the others. It's slow moving, less gripping, and only hints at the talent he'd later develop. Worth a read, though, if you're a Puzo fan, just to see the difference in writing style vs. later books.

"Shifting the assembly point." That's what this book is inspired by. A specific form of crystal healing utilizes this technique. The bit about the inorganic beings was a little trippy for me, but is generally consistent w/ the overall tenets of that lineage of teachings.

Cute! totally explains why kids freak out when they see their teachers/librarians in public. "I wonder if Mr. McCarthy has a girlfriend?" "Teachers don't have girlfriends. They never leave school."

This book is just HOT, it's one big tease and all you keep thinking is "DO IT ALREADY!" Which is probably part of why I kept reading. But it was good character development for the series. Which only gets better.

The publisher sent me a copy of this book. The introduction makes a claim that people who love books are foodies as well. I don't know if a general correlation exists, but it is certainly true of me (and food is definitely an integral part of our book club). I think I may like the idea of this book better than its actual execution. It includes brief author interviews and recipes. Some of the authors are ones I was interested in knowing more about, and some of the recipes look like ones I might want to try. But, honestly, if I'm going to read a cookbook, I'd prefer it to just be a cookbook – and with some food photography, please.

Also known as Ten Little Indians...those who read it know why! I read in high school, in one sitting...cause I couldn't go to sleep until I'd finished. Awesome.

arundhati roy's incisive analysis of globalization, trade policy, and the state of the state in india is bold, brave, and unique. i read this book when i was in india, and it gave me invaluable and hard-to-find information on how poor people continue to struggle for rights, government accountability, and even basic services in 'the world's fastest-growing economy'. an inspiring read that reminds you another world IS possible.

This book was too long for no reason. There were entire chapters that could and probably should have been cut out. I kept losing track of what time they were in, but I think that was part of the point of the story
