This was a good book, but I didn't like it as well as the other Jodi Picoult books I had read. But, as in keeping with her books, there is a twist at the end.

absurdly long and detailed biography of che. bazillions of pictures, little tidbits and anecdotes that you can't really pass up if you're interested in the cuban revolution or che's other attempts to spark revolutions. a tragic story, despite the man's faults and shortcomings, or perhaps because of them, it does give hope.

This book is bleak and well-written. I understand that Cormac McCarthy has quite a precedent for writing about the uglier aspects of human nature; this story was almost uplifting by comparison. It focuses on a father and son duo making their way through the destroyed landscape of the post-"Burn"era. The thing that struck me the most about the story was that it seemed to tap into something fundamental about the way men communicate. The dialog is very spare, and McCarthy sticks to his pattern of calling the man "The man" and the boy "The boy", which provides some distance from the characters. Necessary, I think, in the face of the desolation that confronts them. The Road didn't blow my ming, but it was a good, thoughtful book.

I absolutly loved this book and I could read it over again! It is a great example of the saying "things arn't what they seem." I also really like that although I must agree, the plot seems unlikely, it is not impossible. The fact that it can be very real, helps relate the reader to the book.

it's fun to read about their experiment. for some reason, i wasn't the hugest fan of either of their writing styles- they just seemed less genuine somehow. but, it's good information and makes you want to move to the northwest. and live on a farm.

In general I liked this–the writing was strong and Meghan is a sympathetic narrator. But I was never captured or convinced by this version of Fairyland. I know I’m a bit particular about depictions of Fairyland, but I felt like the wonder and the…engulfingness of it were missing. [Oct. 2011]

I will forever maintain that Sandman is the best comic ever written. Gaiman was originally given the task of resurrecting a not particularly interesting golden age DC superhero, and instead, managed to change comics forever. He created the Endless- Destiny, Death, Destruction, Dream, Desire, Despair, and Delirium (who used to be delight), created a whole new mythology based on so many sources- Greek/Roman/Egyptian/Norse mythology, fairy tales, fables, DC comic book characters, and of course, Gaiman's own brilliant, twisted psyche. Even if you don't think you like comic books, you should read the Sandman books. They are not like any "comic" you have ever read before, and Gaiman is a true genius. Season of Mists is Gaiman at his best- this is Sandman at full tilt, with all it's gorgeous creepiness and wonderful writing.

I read this ages ago but I remember enjoying it. It looks at how a group of students from MIT are able to figure out how to win big at the casinos. It is cool b/c it is a true story.
