Parasta luettavaa vähän väsyneenä päivänä. Haikea ja kaunis, vauhdikkaasti etenevä tarina. Lopetusta myöten yhtä aikaa lohdullista ja surullista luettavaa. Muilla sanoin on tätä vaikea arvioida ja pääni on tänään harvasanainen muutenkin. Mut lukekaahan, jos vielä ette ole…

Interesting concept...it kept me interested and guessing until the end.

This was an extensively researched account of a gruesome murder committed by extreme fundamentalists...thought-provoking and well written.

Loved this book! It gave a totally new perspective to the French Revolution - the view of the Third Estate. Loved how so many historical figured played a part in Madame's story. I totally want to go to her wax museum now!

Gordon Korman has a really great beginning here for his new series about the Titanic. Lives of four diverse young people from England, Ireland, and United States will become intertwined on the voyage and we are left with a powerful cliff hanger when the first book ends. Characters are very good and historical facts and settings most interesting! One the whole family could listen to and enjoy.

I bought this book because I'd heard so many positive things about The Alchemist. For some reason, when I hear too much praise for a book, I'll circle it before actually reading it. Maybe pick up one or two of the author's other books first to get a better idea of what I'm getting myself into. It helps me approach the book I really want to read with more realistic expectations, and, I think, reduces my chances of being unfairly disappointed. Anyway, so I picked this one up and wasn't very impressed, honestly. Even though I've never read the story anywhere else before, but it still feels familiar. Too familiar, in fact, almost cliche. The characterization might have been a little week, too, if only because, at no point in the course of the story did I care whether or not Veronika actually died.

The four Willoughby children – Tim, Barnaby A and Barnaby B, and Jane – aren’t orphans, but they are part of an old-fashioned kind of family. Unfortunately, it’s a family inspired more by the Brothers’ Grimm or Roald Dahl than Frances Hodgson Burnett. Their parents have a perfectly dreadful plan for getting rid of the children. Not to worry, as the children have come up with a plan of their own to get rid of the parents. Add to this a not-so-odious Nanny, an abandoned baby, a candy manufacturer who lost his family to an avalanche, and his not-so-lost family, and you have a parody of old-fashioned orphan stories that would be seriously loathed by Lemony Snicket, complete with a fabulous glossary and bibliography. And ignominious illustrations. And a veritable plethora of Barnabys.

these really felt like the prototypes for the novels--very good but i loved the books so much, the short stories just don't do it for me.
