Ugh. What happened to Patricia Cornwell? Her books used to be interesting...this was crap.

Fascinating account of an individual living during the regime of Hitler. This gave me incredible insights into how the Germans perceived what was happening.

A surprisingly good novel from late in the author's life (unfinished and published poshumously), set in the Carribbean and partaining, as usual, to manhood, writing, and fishing.

This book took me forever to read!!!! It was too weird to think about a person who jumps in and out of his own lifespan. Finally around page 400 the whole thing started to come together for me and I really wanted to read to last 100 or so pages.

I got this book at the library sale for a dollar. Worth every penny.
Not too bad of a book. Discussed a few Celtic and Norse Goddesses, gave some background info on the individual goddess and then a song or poem and a ritual to use to invoke the goddess.

When I started it, I was quite skeptical as it struck me rather self-consciously affected, but by the end I was completely won over - it was hilarious and very clever. There are ideas in it that I still come back to frequently, and it might be the best writing yet on the incongruity and unfathomable nature of human relationships, compounded by all the social constructions and projections that surround us - variously uncontrollable, intentional, or miscalculated. We are doomed to only know our own side of every story, and even to hold only an abridged and edited version of our own self in mind at any time - and how people deal with that in their lives is fascinating, if not without its painful parts. Murdoch's writing is fabulous, and I loved the parts about cousin James especially - the very nature of the cousin relationship being so murky - how someone can be such a permanent but distant fixture of one's entire life, both entirely unknown and the most constant relationship of a lifetime, is just a topic of endless musings with me.

My first introduction to Kurt Vonnegut and while I finished the book in record time it was more of a sense of obligation and mild annoyance with it: since I already read half way I might as well finish it and be done with it. I guess this particular author is just not for me as I look for either very engaging plot and characters or on the other hand for the book to give me a lot to think about, neither of which I found in this novel.
