Well, y'know, it was a murder mystery. The main character almost got offed herself, after being a suspect. Kind of how murder mystery plot twists go. The main character was one of those people that confused me; I couldn't decide if I wanted to be her or if I hated her. I like the whole though-girl thing, but why does "tough" mean "slutty" so often? Lynch wasn't exactly a slut, but she was slutty, for sure. In the same vein, why does "tough" usually equal "bitchy"? And why is it that when girls are tough, it's a defense mechanism? Can't a lady be tough because that's how she is? While I'm definitely not a tough female, I'd like to be, but I don't want to sleep around or be a total bitch-ass to all my friends. I just kind of want to give off the "don't mess with me". . . thing. Whatever you call it. But all these authors keep typing tough girls as slutty and bitchy, too. In which case, no, I don't want to be tough. (Apologies for my rant.) Despite the clichéd-but-how-do-you-get-around-them murder-mystery-twists and the love-hate relationship I had with our main character, it was a tolerable murder mystery. I read it in less than a week, mostly on the train and at school. I might have checked this out of the library on my own, but I probably wouldn't ever have paid money for it. I may not actively try to pawn it off on anyone, but I won't worry about getting it back if I loan it to a friend.
