How can a movie that seemed so horrible and so sad be such an amazing book when the novel and screen play were written by the same person? Shouldn't they be, i don't know.. the same? It just doesn't make sense. Anyway, this was a wonderful book. Yes, it made me cry just as much as the movie did but the book was just so much better. The book leaves you more at peace with the ending. The movie just throws the ending at you and expects you to accept it. Thankfully, my favorite movie line was in the book though it wasn't all together. Steve Martin is an amazing and very vivid author. His style is fantastic. Though his many, many cuss words (which quite shocked me considering the author) I could've lived without. All in all, this novel is a very good read. It's a very moving story that really shows you how love affects the minds of both parties.

Ah, Fen. I've missed you. Not quite sure why I waited so long to get back to you. If you like your vintage mysteries with a dash of absurdity and humor, Crispin isn't a bad way to go. Swan Song wasn't *quite* as rollicking as a book whose descriptions begins with "Hurrah!" ought to be, but still lots of fun and it goes down quickly. Also, it's very twisty, in a good way. It's not necessary to have read the earlier books to enjoy it, although if you have, some of the bits will be even funnier.

The photographs and words together present a simple, practical, realistic, impactful, inspiring impression of Christ and His mission. To better understand the photographer-artist-writer's gift to us, be sure to read the Preface.

This was an assigned book for a Japanese Culture class I took in university, however we were only assigned a couple chapters to read, so 3 years later upon seeing it on my bookshelf I decided to read it cover to cover having had the experience working in Japan. Written in an academic style, it wasn't a quick read but an easy one nonetheless. Sometimes, however, it was a bit too repetitive for my liking, I found the summery based conclusions at the end of each chapter a bit much. That being said, the book was very informative, it set out to explain the situation in Japanese offices between men (Sararimen) and women (O.L.s). Yuko Ogasawara worked as a temporary working in a bank office at Tokyo and learned first hand what it was like. That mixed with surveys and interviews conducted and academic research provided the content of the book. I found the first hand accounts and quotes highly entertaining and enlightening.

There are some cool patterns in this book. I liked the big cable vest, the empire swing cardigan, the twisted v pullover and the garter lace jacket.

I have read the Bible 2 times completely, this is going to be my third. I am not a vary good reader and way bad speller. so because of this, I decided to read the most impotent(the Scriptures), so have tried to constantly read them. I have learned sooooooo much from the bible= Cannon of Books. It has helped me in so many ways, I love it vary much. I expessulay love the new testament and what Christ teaches and does. And as I do what the Messiah has done, I have fond great joy in life and have figured out some things about life on how it works and how to work with it. There is still allot I'm still learning, some vary vary vary hard, others that are vary wonderful and others that are just plan COOOOL !!!!! I invite every one to read it every day, this is what I try and do and I have learned to love them and I know you will too. I know that the Old English in the bible is hard because(I'm a bad speller)so I understand completely. but I can promise you will be able to understand after reading it till the end of the book. it took me about a year or two to get to the end but I got it.

I did not enjoy this book at all until the last few chapters, when Mary Roach starts writing about scientific studies of ghosts, hauntings, and out-of-body experiences. I thought all of that was interesting, and was relieved to finally find numerous references to real research papers or articles. I found myself beginning to enjoy Roach's humor in those last chapters, but she missed the mark at the beginning of the book. In the first chapter, about reincarnation, she recounts her visit to India and her observation of reincarnation research. Her attempt at humor on that topic comes off as sardonic rather than ironic ... frankly, she comes off as a bitch. And I say that as a non-believer in reincarnation, so it's not like I took any personal offense to her derision on the subject. Beyond that, the pointless footnotes sprinkled throughout the entire book and the meandering anecdotes both annoyed and confused me. Footnotes are supposed to serve a technical purpose. I don't care if your book is supposed to be irreverent or funny, don't use footnotes to continue another one of your meandering anecdotes! That kind of brings me to another thing that annoyed me; Roach constantly refers to her deference to science and so, starting out, I was given the impression that she must have some kind of background in science or at least have a scientific mind. But she doesn't and doesn't. She's just skeptical of anything and everything unless proof of some kind has been handed to her from someone in a white coat with lots of credentials and titles behind their name. That is not a bad thing, but I think I would have enjoyed her writing on the possibility of an afterlife more if she was technically minded rather than just hard-headed. (Not that she doesn't employ technical thought; I just wanted some of the science to be from her and not just quotes from a myriad of - sometimes random - sources.) Despite what drove me crazy about this book, I still want to read Roach's other books. I hope that decomposing bodies and/or sex make better subject matter for Roach's style and humor ...
