A smile inducing book about the power of imagination and ability to entertain yourself that is so critical for children to develop.

Reads a little bit like a stump speech, but it's fairly well-written. I wanted to learn as much as possible about what appears to be the most (only?) qualified serious candidate for president since FDR. He could've been more candid, but that's politics for you.

A compilations of the letters Charlie, a high school sophomore, sends to an anonymous "friend" which document his thoughts and feelings during the school year. Such a good book, very "Catcher in the Rye". More about thinking and feeling than a captivating plot, and one of my new favorites.

Unfortunately, I can't use any book that mentions God in Family Story Time at the library. This is a beautiful book.

Sweet (ugh - shouldn't use that word - but it comes to mind)and romantic. Makes me want to start a book club. Also prompted me to re-read all Jane Austin.

The fact is, Chuck Palahniuk is a one-trick pony. Every single one of his books has the exact same narrator, the exact same condescending, repetitive voice. I found that voice easy to sympathize with (har-har) at first, and that's what drew me to his works in the beginning. I thought it was a strong, jaded voice that makes wonderfully strong, jaded commentaries. That voice became less and less interesting with each book of his that I read, until this one, when I finally looked at it and saw the pretentious, repetitive, whiny voice that it really is. It doesn't help that the author I immediately read before Palahniuk was Asimov and his clean, straightforward writing. The contrast was laughably drastic. I picture Asimov to be this affable uncle who sits on a simple wooden chair in the middle of a well-lit room, and tells you a story. I picture Palahniuk to be the 30-something guy with slicked hair who tells a story by first turning off all the lights, building a bonfire in the middle of the room and then shines a flashlight in his face before telling you a story with a weird, fake voice. Anyway, Lullaby itself has a stupid plot and stupid characters. I persisted through it mostly because it was very short, and with the amount that Palaniuk repeats himself I can pretty much skip through half of the pages without missing anything. I thought perhaps the ending would bring a bang of a revelation to all the nonsense that preceded it, because other books I've read by him tend to have sensational endings. Well, the ending was sensational in a way, but only in the stupidity department. I'm officially removing Palahniuk from the list of authors that I read.

This is witty, interesting and fun to read. The rest of the series is to formulaic to maintain interest.

This book had a sort of Cinderella and Ever After feel to it. I, personally, really enjoyed reading it because it was a feel good, romantic kind of book. A hidden princess, the evil step father, a dashing young prince and a happily ever after ending. My teenage daughter is going to LOVE it. :)

Even though the language felt a bit dated, I appreciated the social ideologies wrapped up in the novel. It was an interesting justification of the humanistic need of God and religion, yet still agreed with my reason and atheistic sensibilities.

Look at the cover for this book and you'll get the gist of it. Girl is half vamp. Girl kills vamps. Girl meets good vamp. Girl falls in love with good vamp. They kick ass together. I'm not spoiler-tagging that because if you've ready any type of urban fantasy, it'll be familiar to you. Halfway to the Grave is full of all sorts of urban fantasy tropes, but I'm not saying that as a bad thing. The language is a quick read, there are some chuckle-inducing phrases. The good vamp is all sorts of hot. Halfway to the Grave was exactly what I was in the mood for after reading a couple of substance-heavy books.
