I actually forgot I read this until someone reminded me. I really did not like it. I found it dark, dreary, hopeless and I cannot imagine watching the movie. I certainly don't mind books with depressing topics, as long as there is some redeeming quality (ie, "The Shack"). I found no such redemption in "The Road". Am I missing something here? If so, please enlighten me!

(LDS writer) This was a cute book. It's about a CIA agent who is assigned to watch over a prince and eventually they fall in love. It's not an "at the edge of your seat" kinda book. Just an easy, cute, fun little read.

I read this book for a college class - I remember liking it, but mainly it made me very sad. It's the story of the partition of India told from the viewpoint of a young girl, whose connections to the larger, more diverse community (through her Ayah and other people in her community) capture the effect of the partition on all the ethnic and religious groups.

Quite possibly the best book by a living writer I have come across. Writing a novel is a fushion of two different arts-- storytelling and effective prose writing-- and Rushdie seems to be able to produce the ideal fusion of the two arts, giving us amazingly beatuiful prose (you can get lost in his words...) that does not block or impede the interesting and very involved story he has to tell (but you won't actually get lost.)
