Great account of the American/Vietnam War. Really shows how "sides" in war is often based more on survival than ideology.

Still haven't seen the movie. The book moves forward with such a steady pace, it begs to be read twice consecutively. It's western style is pleasantly subdued and authentic feeling.

I found this book to be interesting and sad at the same time! It is amazing what went on in the Hamptons that resulted in the death of Peter Mullen. To see his brother and his friends go about finding the truth was good to read about, especially towards the end. What they did, along with Jack and Peter's grandfather, Mack, they all accomplished what they set out to do; get at the truth behind the murder and coverup of Peter, Jack's younger brother. This book was a very good read and I enjoyed every minute of it.

This was a high two stars. It was nothing amazing. Maybe I was expecting too much. I might continue with the series, but not anytime soon. I just didn't feel much chemistry be Maddox and Ashlyn. I felt more between Danika and Reyes. I might read up to their book at some point.

Aside from the Bible, this is my favorite book.

Audio recording was definitely the way to go with this book -- the narrator's amazing range of accents made it infinitely more enjoyable. Each story was originally written in installments for an Irish magazine, and each one deals with immigration in a different way. I especially loved the title story and the return of Jimmy Rabbite from the Barrytown Trilogy (as well as the Oscar-nominated short film it inspired). And "The Tram," a horror story that came out of nowhere and scared me half to death on the deserted road between Syracuse and Ithaca. Oh, and "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" was incredibly funny. OK, maybe I just loved them all.

The story begins when a newspaper reporter visits his grandparents in Florida and asks for the story of his grandfather's time during WWII. What follows is a compelling and sometimes graphic account of survival during the siege of Leningrad. I liked the protagonist, Lev, but was a little put off at times by his companion.

i was impressed by gilbert's ability to express her fears and what she felt were shortcomings so openly. i think many people would have been embaressed to share everything so freely. i found it very brave on her part. the india section drug on for me but it picked back up in indonesia. there were quite a few parts that were very memorable and i've discussed in length with my girlfriends. inspiring.

Ian McEwan is a real good writer, and this is another Sara recommendation to me. My prediction is pain, but it's a good hurt to read.
